its pathetic...sitting off, getting beat...you beat peps teams by attacking, by actually pressing them. but no. sit back garbage...dunno if i can be bothered with the rest of it to be honest...

not surprised in the least...

That defense is embarrassing. What can you actually do as a manager when they come out and fall apart like that?!

@5R7 thing is they actually have been pressing really well from the beginning. It’s the centrebacks that have thrown it all away.

39 min City have not been at their best and they should probably be 4-0 up. It makes you realise how well Jose Mourinho has done to get United into second place because this is a desperately ordinary side.

:sherlock:  that's one way of looking at it...how about it's the opposite? Mourinho has a bunch of really talented players, plenty among the best in the world in their position/age group, and does not get the best out of them on a weekly basis, but enough of their talent shows through often enough to get the points to reach 2nd in the table.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Generally we rely on individual brilliance to win matches, often from De Gea, sometimes from Lingard, Lukaku, Martial. We rarely seem to control games, or come out set up in a logical way. Often we look like we're not even sure what we're supposed to be doing, which is kind of unthinkable for a Mourinho team.

Guardiola is clearly prioritising Tuesday and it's still so one sided. I think that (and Sterling) is what may save us from a real pasting, they have got what they wanted from the game pretty much so they may back off.

We can't really compete in games like this because if the opposition are good enough to get past our defensive approach, we have no response. In the modern game, a lot of top teams defend by attacking, by giving the opposition so much to think about that they never get their own game going. Being positive and being aggressive seems to not only be better entertainment, but actually more effective. Yet I find myself hoping that in the second half we completely unashamedly park the bus, just to avoid further embarassment. That is all I think this team is capable of over the next 45 minutes. Mourinho seems like a manager from another era, at least at the top echelons of club football.

Yes, we are second in the league. But there are other teams, teams very close behind us, who seem much more able to give City a run for their money. If not in terms of their league position, at least in a game. Teams with similar or less resources.

This! Just think what fergie would be doing with the players we have now!

Honestly I think I would prefer Eddie howe in charge, at least then we would be playing attacking footie! Or hell, Roberto martinet!

Tony pulis could do what Jose has done, defend.

Also, I stopped watching and went the chippy, that 20 min walk is more fun!

Both Liverpool and Spurs anyone would have to say have squads the manager is getting the best out of. When Spurs beat Dortmund and Real Madrid you see it, when Liverpool beat Man City you see it. So them both being below Man United should point to this squad being better rather than 2nd being a reflection of how 'well' Mourinho is doing, because...if he was doing well you'd see the team reach its peak performance often, as opposed to...never. Or the table doesn't lie but doesn't tell the full story, those few extra points don't mean anything considerable.

I just want to see United make for games worth watching. I want a derby to be fun. United have had more time to prepare for this, are fresher, can put out a full strength side. My stream has been crap so missed loads but all I saw was city attacking.

edit: also reset laptop and was writing this instead of following min by min..
