McTominay has looked good hasnt he!

sometimes i think some young players just need to be chucked in to see what they can do for a few games, yeah it doesn't always work no, but, sometimes it does!

But remember, Mourinho never gives young players a chance!

@JPL I’m not quite sure what you want him to do when they can’t put 5 passes together. 1 shot on target can’t be Mourinho’s fault.

on a positive note, McTominay has looked great so far. Very composed and strong.

Come on, it’s Mourinho’s tactics that are stifling the players. Look how they were at the start of the season, before he reverted to being overly defensive. They were playing with confidence, having fun and, more importantly, scoring plenty of goals and winning games. It creates a positive atmosphere, that can help propel a team through the season and perform at their peak. Currently they look bored, lacking in confidence and not enjoying themselves, which is being reflected in the team performances.

If you’re telling me that it’s not Mourinho’s fault, but the players, then he needs to get a grip and motivate them. Isn’t that his job as a manager?

that was terrible.  i dont care about good result in europe. if we actually played the players in the right formation, 433, and played proper attacking footy, we would have had them like liverpool smashed porto.

i am absolutely fed up with the boring negative football mourinio plays!

meh....

more of that on sunday then yeah?

Biggest game of McTominay's career by miles and he has not looked out of place at all. Lost the ball in dangerous areas once of twice, but apart from that, a really solid performance.

Uneventful but satisfying then. Probably the right approach from Mourinho given we have Chelsea at the weekend. Sevilla will have a very hard time of it in the return fixture, on this evidence anyway.

I agree with your second point, it is his job. But don’t you think that was a professional away performance in Europe? Tactics are there for a reason, I agree they don’t always need to be defensive especially at home in the PL, but it this situation they were correct IMO. If the passing and finishing had been of higher quality when we did go forward we would most likely have an away goal in the bag too (see Lukaku’s scoop over the bar).

Watching us play against a bigger club is going to be utterly soul destroying. I'd be willing to take this negative football if we actually did nick wins, like when he did it with Inter, but its going to god awful seeing us go up against Barca, Madrid, Munich.

It seems that every single game i manage to watch is just an amalgamation of clueless attacking football.

Are you guys still watching the BT coverage?  Gary Lineker just bought up the voting results of the 2017 UEFA best goalkeeper award, and apparently De Gea didn't get a single vote.  That's absolutely extraordinary.  I think he's a serious candidate for being the best goalkeeper of all time.

wait...what!?!? statistiaclly, he IS the best goalkeeper in the prem, that hole  expected shots stat shows he is insanely good, like, he should have conceded some 15/16 more goals, and that would have been acceptably good!

who in the fuck won it?

edit - i see it was buffon the last 2 years...really...REALLY!??

edit 2 - sorry my bad, it  was 14 expected goals prevented - http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/11212584/david-de-gea-premier-leagues-top-performing-goalkeeper-stats-reveal

Surely ultimately a manager ought to just be getting the best out his players, and Mourinho isn't in comparison to Klopp, Pochettino, Guardiola. They get more often than not half their team reaching their peak performance every week. If the whole is playing well together individuals can shine.

Just a fractured team of individuals, like England. It says a lot that everyone favours the often calamitous Liverpool to win the Champions League because the front three are so on fire and so fluid. Everyone just thinks Man United will need a goal at some point they won't be able to get.

So nothing to see so much talent never flourish.

Sevilla had scored the fewest goals of any team in the last 16 and that was still how he set up against them, so yeah against a club with some actual goal threat be prepared for 10 men behind the ball basically.

@Gabzy I’m going to do a little test today. My prediction is that we play defensively again, the players look frustrated, their play is sloppy and we don’t get a win because we never look like going for it.

Now, I could be wrong on the outcome, as we could feasibly nick a win on the counter, just because I reckon that’s how Mourinho will set them up to play.

What I’m saying though is that Chelsea aren’t playing their best at the moment and we’ve slipped behind Liverpool in the league. We should be going for a win in this game. Although being in 2nd or 3rd doesn’t really make any difference, I think it’s pretty important for the fans to see that the team is striving to be the best. I also think it’s important that the players are allowed to go out there and have fun, to build their confidence and to get a run of form going.

Yes, playing an attacking game might be more risky, but if we actually play an entertaining game, then that’s a risk I’d rather they take.

I just can’t see Mourinho allowing it though.

The best we can hope for is a 0-0 we don't really deserve. We know what kind of tactics we're going to get, and what kind of performance. We've been shit for most of this season and we're going backwards, getting worse. We won't get second place back now, and in fact we're in danger of missing out on the top four. Spurs are better than us and in much better form, so they will cruise past us sooner or later. Chelsea are our rivals for fourth and we're about to hand them three points due to our own lack of ambition.

Fortunately for me I'm working today, so I won't have to watch it.

I don’t understand what the long term goal is of us being like this though. Is it all geared up for us doing as little as possible while scraping into the Champions League?

What about entertaining the fans? You know the ones who’s spend an absolute fortune following this club. What about striving to be the best? What about allowing the players to enjoy themselves?

I honestly don’t get it. To be fair though, I gave up going to the matches a long time ago and I’m increasingly not bothering to watch us anymore either, so I shouldn’t let it wind me up. It’s just a shame to see the club I’ve followed all my life turn into this shite.

To add to the bored doom, the papers seem to be indicating pogba wants to leave as he is fed up with Jose. Blaming  him, and yet not trying to play him in a formation that gets the best from him, we all know he needs to be in a 433, why the fuck has he not even tries that with pogba in!? .

And degea now wants 350k a week... Well, sanchez  now seems like even less business sense as its making others demand that ridiculous amount.

Never mind the fact that sanchez hasn't added anything at all, and seemingly we have played worse since he arrived!?

And I'm with everybody in the expecting utter dross of a game today... Meh...

I think what pisses me off the most is watching all the teams around us (well, City, Liverpool and Spurs anyway) actually seeming like they want to be the best, looking like they’re enjoying playing and being entertaining to watch. Thinking about those teams, it baffles me even more what our plan is.
