The old Man Utd Thread

I wasn't able to watch the game, so I ended up having to listen to it on the generally godawful 5live. They spent the entire match going on about how awful United were, how we were lucky to still be in the game, that Everton were by far the better team. How accurate is that assessment? I'm dubious because it also sounded like we hit the bar a couple of times and had a goal disallowed. They didn't talk much about that. They said it was very close, then went quiet for a couple of seconds while they watched a replay, then commented that the linesman was well-positioned. No mention of whether it was actually offside or not.

It was attack v defence, to an increasing degree of ridiculousness, after Everton scored. Honestly both teams should've done better; we had so much of the ball it was incredible how few clear chances we fashioned (well, maybe not if you've watched us at home recently), and Everton had excellent opportunities on the break that they squandered. Lukaku was pretty wasteful tbh, and seemed to be getting pelters from his team mates for his work off the ball.

Shaw shouldn't have any excuses. he's had since coming back from injury on 2nd Jan to work hard and be fit.  José obviously doesnt think he's doing the business.

Was the 2nd his return from the leg break? I'd suggest such a drastic injury will take a lot longer than 3 months to recover from. Mentally as well as physically.

He needs plenty of time to recover but i think Mourinho has shown throughout his career he doesn't do patience. He wants the finished article.

Lukaku was terrible, he looked tired. At least 2-3 times he just had his head down and smashed a shot at the legs of one of your defenders when playing a ball to a team mate would have given Everton a great chance.

yeah...that seems to be the general feeling on the pic on FB as well...why not zlatan!? can only think hes gone with longest serving first team player...which is concerning as well...

Would've gone for either Herrera or Fellaini, either's fine. Have a lot of injuries in defence, so I guess it doesn't matter too much who's picked, they're way down the pecking order and it's just one game.

Strong, v attacking line up. Pereira, Rashford and Martial on the bench too, so can spice things up further if needed. Hope it's a high scoring game, we need our forwards to regain some confidence.

it is disappointing to see him slag of shaw so much, but i think hes trying to get shaw to actully mature and become more determined, and turn round and say " fuck you jose, ill show you!"  which is what he wants him to do.

its not really confusing...unless, you dont play a ridiculous amount of football manager, and know all the youth players too lol.

shame he hasnt brought callum gribbin into the first team fold yet, that kid looks incredible!

You see them given, he's gone over the top of the ball.

Pretty much confirms Sunderland's relegation for me. He's one of their best players, this game is a write off now, and they won't have him for the next three games. Probably too late to climb to survival after all that.

The red card isn't going to help us. The ref will see it at half time, realise it was harsh, and try to even it up in the second half.

I'd put money on Luke Shaw getting a second yellow. That's the obvious "narrative" and Premier League games have a strange habit of following narratives these days.
