Wow, that finish :o

Mata flew home yesterday for his grandad's funeral but came back for the game. Nothing to do with him being subbed.

We need to pull our socks up real quick after squandering a 2 goal lead.

regards the defence, i realy think we look better with blind init, he does the readin, and lets whoever else do the physical stuff...but we have just been poor all over, started with the wrong team, and paying the price...

can see soton snatch this...

What a lovely, cute ball from Herrera. Zlatan showing all his experience to ghost into that space. Southampton all over us this half, against the run of play you have to say. Maybe our fixture list is responsible but we've definitely looked second best, if we can hold onto this lead it'll be a bit of a smash and grab. But a trophy! About four minutes away, hopefully...

I know it's a bit of a Micky Mouse competition, but it feels great to have won it. Strange really, because Southampton were the better team, and deserved to win. Herrera was immense, Zlatan is just a phenomenon. Pogba, Rojo, Lingard and Martial had the odd moment. Most of the rest were poor.

Eh he was warming up to come on and he is the captain. It's not like he dashed into the changing rooms moments before to ditch the suit.

Valencia? You have mentioned most of the team there.

I think we let the game get into a pattern where we were under pressure and would hoof it, then it of course came right back at us. Southampton's energy levels were higher and chasing after them just made things worse. Introducing Carrick didn't have the stabilizing effect it usually has either. But there's a clear winning mentality at the club now and we somehow managed to pull through. We generally play better than under Moyes or Van Gaal but even when we don't, we often come away with something anyway.

Think we might see quite a few players rested before Bournemouth and Rostov, maybe Rooney will come back into things. Perhaps even Luke Shaw will get a kick or two of the ball. We've had seven games a month for the past three months, and if we keep fighting on all fronts, things will probably only become more congested. Most of the teams above us only have the league to worry about now, might adversely affect our ability to get into the top four. But if we win a few trophies along the way I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest.

Nah he was an unused sub and club captain. Terry watched the final in a suit and got changed to collect the trophy. Big difference.

Anyway, Saints battered us and we were incredibly lucky to get away with it. Defensively all over the place, was cringeworthy at times. Still, a win's a win. Nice to have another trophy in the bag.

Just realised I'll be there to see a bit of a trophy presentation thing at the Bournemouth game :)

Yeah I have, haven't I? Valencia was decent too. I can't really fault De Gea either. So essentially I'm blaming Smalling, Bailly, Carrick, and Mata.

One thing no-one has mentioned is that it was a really fantastic match. A great cup final.

Went to the game, although was in a mixed area with other United and Southampton fans. Bit weird and polite clapping when either team scored. I managed to scare the shit out of some poor woman when Zlatan scored, or so my better half tells me.

Not sure if it came across on TV, but why were the Saints fans holding their phones aloft after the equaliser?

Anyway, the game. I thought we were poor or at least most of the team were, barring Zlatan, Ander and Dave. From where I was, Bailly looked like he'd never seen a football before, similarly with Smalling too. Rojo was being skinned down that side - is he really better than Shaw at LB? Not for me.

I think it showed that it was our third game since Southampton's last match. We looked really lethargic I felt. Neither Martial, Mata or Lingard wanted to run in behind much at all. Southampton were the better team and deserved more, but the difference was individual brilliance and yet more poor officiating.

Oh well, a trophy is a trophy and that puts us on 42 major honours, the most successful club in England.
