The old Man Utd Thread

We very rarely get to watch a good game against the scousers, do we? Was a bit too frantic in the second half, I don't think either side really showed what they're capable of (well, Liverpool's pressing was good, but apart from that), so everyone goes away from that slightly disappointed and thinking they could've won it. It was slightly spoiled as a competitive spectacle by Pogba's mad handball, and he'll probably get a retrospective ban for wrestling Henderson to the ground on a corner. Think he lost his head a bit in this game.

Still, made a point up on City this weekend, which I wasn't expecting. They play Spurs next so hopefully we can climb into the top four before long.

Annoyed we couldn't beat a pretty shite Liverpool team. Even though we came from behind they were there for the taking and we've lost two points tonight.

There was hardly anything between us though, I wouldn't really say 2 points lost for you at all. You were on top most of the 2nd half but did fuck all with it. Bit of a stalemate again to be honest.

Bit of a fishing post to be honest. I know it was a close game, I just wanted to post to see which Liverpool fans would neg me in the Utd thread. Chewylegs for one :)

I felt like we had enough about us in the match to win. I'm not disappointed about the draw but Liverpool came out to disrupt by their high pressing in the first half and their blanket defence in the second. Their only hope was hitting on the break but we were comfortable enough until the last 10 where everything was wide open.

Think it was 2 points dropped tbh, without Pogba giving away that pen, I couldn't see Liverpool scoring.

Liverpool didn't really create a lot until we were playing two at the back and three up front.  That wasn't how they were trying to play though - their game was one of disruption, and trying to force mistakes.  It worked in the first half, as we handed them a goal and couldn't really get our passing game working under the pressure.  We were playing some nice triangles around them at times, but when every pass is made under pressure it's difficult to look up and find anything creative to do.  Despite their gameplan working, I'd say we were on top in the first half, as we did create some good chances, had all the possession, and had the most attacking intent with the ball.  Liverpool kind of attack without the ball, so it's difficult at time to read who's on top of their matches.  I can't remember them doing a lot in the first half apart from the penalty, which was obviously a complete gift.  We needed to put away that Pogba chance, or the Mkhitaryan one.  The Zlatan free-kick was obviously a good chance, but one that was handed to us by a refereeing mistake rather than any good play on our part.  The foul for that free-kick on Herrera was obviously a foul, but that was the moment when Pogba grabbed a Liverpool defender round the neck and threw him to the ground.  He was lucky not to be sent off for that, really.

The second half was when we were supposedly on top, but we created nothing much.  We were offside in the build-up to the equaliser, and Liverpool were starting to control things a bit more, especially when Coutinho came on.  That chance for Wijnaldum towards the end was an absolute sitter.  Liverpool's gameplan started to work against them a bit when Fellaini came on, as they were comitting an awful lot of fouls (as they always do with their high-tempo pressing - it basically involves three players at a time rushing into barely-controlled tackles.  It's only because they stay on their feet that they get away with it much of the time.  I'm not saying they're a dirty team, it's just that their style of play involves a lot of tackling and doubling or tripling-up on players, and there's a lot of nipping away at ankles.)  Even then we played a pretty ineffective long-ball game, and Liverpool looked dangerous on the break.

I'd say a draw was a fair result.

Martial missed a great opportunity from Micki's cross in the second half. But prior to Coutinho coming on, we were camped in their half more or less without creating much.

Dave was the less busy of the two keepers only making, I think, two saves all game?!

Klopp was irked by our long ball game, whilst failing to see the irony that his team in fact have played that tactic more than us. Difference being, we have a team profile that lends itself better to that approach.

As for Pogba, he had an awful game, but he's still 23 with much to learn. Stoke up next, so hopefully we can beat them at their place.
