There were some strange quotes in that interview, it seems. I've only read the edited highlights on the BBC website, so they may make more sense in context. He says United have abandoned their "tradition" of not imposing themselves in the transfer market and trying to compete with other clubs. That's a weird rewriting of history considering that we tended to break the British transfer record quite regularly during SAF's tenure and have never been shy about spending money to bring the right player in. He also mentions missing out on Bale, Fabregas, and Kroos during his time. Bale we were apparently offering more than Real Madrid for him! Where does that fit in with these Great Traditions?

 

He claims that, given time, he would have got United to where they are now. Sixth, presumably. Still rebuilding some of the damage he was a part of. He also conveniently ignores the fact that perhaps those three players didn't sign in part because they weren't particularly excited about working with him. Players sign as much for the manager as the club in this country. They need to trust the manager to improve them as players and bring success to the club. That might be why they weren't jumping at the chance to sign for us.

It's like there's a damn psychological barrier now in the team, that every time we're ahead 1-0 we cannot seem to score another and create some breathing space for ourselves - no matter how many chances we create. So frustrating, because our attacking play has been increasing in quality every game but it's just not reflecting that in the score lines.
