Lovely finish by Rooney.  I reckon he was offside, but we deserve to be ahead.  Mkhitaryan has been excellent, and is really unlucky not to have scored at least one.  We absolutely need to find him a place in the team, he looks such a smart, inventive player.

We're due some luck.

The FS1 commentary team is hilarious. The anchor just asked, almost rhetorically, after another great bit of play by Mkhitaryan "does he look like a player lacking confidence?!" and the co-commentator replies "yes". Can imagine the glare he gave him in the gantry.

Rooney's been good, very good. Bright and inventive. Goal and assist for his efforts today. Might be worth trying him through the middle on his own again? Would've preferred to see Rashford come on for Ibra... Mata's walk off the pitch was practically part of his goal celebration.

Pogba still looks like he'd be more comfortable playing further forward. I don't like the look of him with the ball in deep positions, always looks like he could switch off and get caught.

in all honestly...we actually look like utd again, possession with intent! this started last week, and carried on, and it really comes down to carrick being in the team!?!

he gives the defence the extra security, and allows the attackers to go forward! ... i guess blind "could" play there...

and pogbas allways been about going forward, but look at the difference jose made to herrera, and teaching him to defend a bit more, could do the same with pogba over the next couple of years maybe..

Rojo and Jones look like a decent defensive pairing (if given protection), and Shaw is fit and in decent form... so why not? It's arguably a more natural position for him. Carrick spends a lot of time playing deeper as part of a temporary back three anyway, so his role wouldn't necessarily change all that much.

Lingard's been great since coming on. He's becoming a very consistent player, would like to see him used more. Glad he's got that goal, 4-0 is quite a scoreline, even at home against an under-strength Feyenoord. The team needed to enjoy a game, and get some swagger back.

it was blind and jones today, the problem is, that blind and bailey has been out best CB's...so we need another blind...or carrick

At various points in the season, Blind, Smalling, Rojo, Jones and Bailly (who's probably been the most impressive) have all had games where they looked good. So I think it's more about the defensive structure, particularly the protection in front, than strictly the quality of the individuals. We have a lot of relatively average centre backs, to be honest, it's a shame we can't covert any of them into centre back candy to level the others up.

4 - 1 - 4- 1

seems a bit tasty.

What worked particularly well was the interchanging of positions, so I wouldn't get too caught up on the actual formation, what was important was the individuals and the roles they played. It looked like a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3 at points, Mata and Rooney moved deep to great effect and Mkhitaryan didn't seem to have any fixed position at all.

That pass for the second goal looks better every time you see it.

I liked Rooney calling Des Kelly out for bringing up the hotel thing again while pretending to ask about other people bringing it up.

Regarding the Carrick question, it's going to get difficult. He can't play every week, or indefinitely, but even at 36, he's arguably still our best central midfielder, and that's a midfield that contains the world's most expensive player. Blind might be the closest replacement we have, but even he's no substitute for Carrick. That position is all about making the right decisions, seeing the whole picture on the pitch, reading where the danger is, and controlling the tempo. Carrick has this amazing ability to make the right decisions every time. Blind gets caught out sometimes. He makes ill-advised forward runs, gets caught in possession from time to time, and sometimes fails to spot dangerous situations. He also doesn't seem to have any particular ability to dictate tempo or control a game. He'd need to be the guy who is always available, and who has the ball more than anyone else. I'm not sure he's up to it.

the real thing with the sort of deep lying playmaker/regista (to much FM), or the "out ball"  is that it is predominantly an older players position, where they put what they have learned into it, thats why the best players at it are always in the later stages of there careers, there are very few younger players that can actually play the role, as they simply havent learnt it yet, you could argue that maybe busquets (the diver) has played there his whole career, but very few others, you may get deep midfielders. oddly he seems to be getting missed out at barca at the moment...wonder if hed leave lol

spose the argument could be made that maybe schweinsteiger could be played there...but jose seems made up to off him..
