The old Man Utd Thread

Who said Zlatan was only going to score 15 this season? ;)

Really liking the look of this team. Pogba did seem to have a roaming central role which really worked for him. I don't know how well that will work against better teams unless he is the forward midfielder replacing Rooney. Zlatan is clearly a class act, wasn't 100% on him before but that was basically due to a lack of viewing time. Shaw, Valencia, Blind all looked really good as well. I'd be keeping Smalling out of the team for a bit. But I'd like to see Mkhitaryan start the next game.

tl;dr Impressed

Good result, good performance. More to come from us I've no doubt. I like the profile of our team, Jose bringing in some physically imposing players and showing you can have less of the ball and still win.

Loving the Zlatan/Pogba double act.

That interview's amazing! Us signing Zlatan feels a lot like the Van Persie, in that it might not be a plan for the long-term, but as it stands he's absolutely one of the best strikers in the world.

Fellaini was playing in the role which he typically says is his best, which is sitting in front of the defence. To be fair to him, he looked good. He broke up play well, his passing was good, and didn't look flustered when pressured as he sometimes does. Herrera looked good there against Bournemouth, makes me wonder how much Blind and Carrick feature in Mourinho's midfield plans. Maybe against better sides / away from home they'll come in, who knows. Pogba looked to be playing a little further forward, almost as if on the left side of a diamond at times, and he looked totally comfortable. Quite free to contribute in offence and attack, and his willingness to accept the ball under pressure and try to beat players add something completely different to out attack. He's so strong too, when he makes a mistake in a dribble it barely seems to mattter, looks like an absolute nightmare to play against. The only thing missing really was a little more pace in attack. Here's hoping Rashford at least makes some sub appearances over the next few games. If he'd been on instead of Rooney I think Southampton would've had a very hard time living with us.

Valencia looks transformed, the centre backs spread so wide and push up so far, so he barely needs to do any defending. Got into crossing positions so regularly and his deliveries were better than we've seen from him in years. So many positives to take from the game. Team don't really look like they're clicking yet, but it's already miles more effective and entertaining than what we were watching last season.

Paul Pogba is a snip at £89m.

We've not had a player in over a decade that can transition defence to attack so easily by beating a man. This was his first game after just over a week of training in a team which is in transition.

I don't even care if we don't win anything this year, if we continue to play like this and grow I'm happy. After not enjoying my team play for so long this is a breath of fresh air.

Boo. City have gone above us in the table! How come there isn't a City thread on here anyway? Are they really that badly supported?

I see Moyes is being Mr. Positive already with Sunderland. He's basically come out and said they're heading for a relegation battle after losing their first two Premier League matches. He also said that the club has been struggling for the last 4 years, so why should this season be any different.

I wonder if he ever thinks that maybe his job is to try and improve the team he's responsible for?

I'm sure the fans are going to take to him as well as ours did with stupid defeatist comments like that.

I am sure this post will get negged to hell but!

As a neutral (my dad is Irish so I never grew up having any strong affiliation for any particular team other than those teams with Irish players) and hitherto like a sort of crap fan of man utd (and several other clubs to be fair) this season I will definitely not be able to support your team. In mourinho and ibrahimovic you have managed to sign two of the most hateful Individuals in world football. And the reason for this post is mourinho giving it the biggie about schweinsteiger. Sure, if you don't want to play him, don't play him. But why humiliate one of soccer's great players by announcing it in public?

I guess the reason I am posting is simply to ask if any of you proper fans have any reservations about this sort of stuff. Just genuinely interested.

Schweinsteiger was shit last season and he was an LvG stooge. I'm fine with it. It's nothing Ferguson wouldn't have done.

And Ibra is a class act. Huge ego but he plays up to his persona. Not sure why you think he's so 'hateful'.
