The old Man Utd Thread

He wouldn't have started I don't think but he'd have probably had some action as a sub. Mourinho has said that he'll be ready for Southampton next friday though.

As for the suspension, it's a bit odd. As I understand it,  two yellows in two cup games doesn't lead to a suspension for a  Serie A game so god knows why it leads to a suspension in the PL...

mmm dullsville...*sigh*

the best thing that could hapen this early in the season, would be a rooney injury, not summit horrific, but summit that would just keep him out the team...for the rest of the season...the only place he would be decent would be next to schiderlin or carrick (putting pogba further up)...everywhere else on the pitch we have better options!

why couldnt he have just gone to china...

he will probly score a stuinner now...

simply not enough pace, in both actual pace, and the pace that we play!

rooney and zlaten, wont work, they are too similar and both lack real pace.

play zlatan as the 10 ish, then have lingard(or mephis or mikhytarian i guess( dont see him as an improvement on lingard so far)), rasford and martial around him for pace, pogba and schnderlin behind that. the back four can be what it is.

and if sombody would just run with the ball from midfield, we woulddo better, just like lingard did in the freindly, just tgurned and ran! and then scored!

Well I would like a fluid front 6 consisting of

martial rashford lingard

januzaj mata herrera

but it's too late for that. But who plays as defensive midfielder?!! How does it even fit?!! Dunno. I don't think there's any order to the play anyway, just hoping a ball is crossed in and Zlatan/Rooney head it in or drill in the rebound. That's it. Why else play them.

I thought Fellaini also put in work, seemed to win every header. Imagine Him and Pogba at the back, two huge men.

More impressively i thought was the work that Herrera put in defensively. i can now see a straight swap with pogba and Felaini happening fairly successfully

And here was everyone telling me that Pogba looked less than stellar at the Euros because he was playing in a holding midfield position. Everyone telling me he won't play there for Utd. Now everyone saying he should play there. I don't know anymore.

Where's the midfielders?

I agree with Nicky too. Herrera was brilliant in a different role than what we've seen him in the past. I seem to remember him play a more holding role last season in a game or 2 and played well but never saw him there again. I'm an admirer of Herrera, always have been and I worried he'd not get game time until (if) we played with 3 central midfielders but if he can form a partnership with Pogba. As unlikely as it looks on paper I'll be happy-ish.

Still firmly believe you need to give Pogba license to do what he wants to get the best out of him. And for that to happen he needs more than one midfield partner.

As for the game I enjoyed it. Weren't massively exciting but 3 goals away from home will do me fine. Thought passing was a bit slow at times and I think we need pace on the right. Especially if you're going with Rooney and Zlatan through the middle but overall for a first game I'm happy. WIth Pogba and Mkhitaryan to come in.

Finally, Blind and Bailly were brilliant. The latter of which impressed me again! Really making a name for himself so soon. His passing forward to the midfield means for me Smalling might have his work cut out getting back in. Which is only good for us.

We would lose every game.  Okay, I suppose a lot of them would be 5-3 thrillers, which would be entertaining at least.  Seriously though, Mata as our midfield lynchpin, with Herrera and Januzaj either side of him?  You're not secretly Ozzie Ardiles are you?

regarding Bailly, he does look good so far.  My only worry is that he does appear to like a slide-tackle, from what I've seen of him in Spain.  He's got a red card or two in him, for certain.

deep lying!? no. carrick or schiderlin are the deeplying, pogba is box to box, or pushes on, he dont sit!, you can have two midifeld players where only one is the sitter! :P
