Surprised it's only a 5 year contract. Meaning when he's 27 he'll be off for pennies in his prime to Madrid or Barca in the last year of his contract.

Great signing for the prem anyway, what a season it's going to be especially with new managers.

Credit where it's due, Woodward appears to have learnt over the last couple of Summers and he's been on point so far with his decisions and negotiations. Managed to secure all of Jose's top targets, certainly the best transfer window we've had I think.

Rumours that Ashley Young is joining Palace. Makes sense, 5th or 6th choice winger right now.

So 23+3 GK's is taking shape.

Goalkeepers (3):
De Gea, Romero, Pereira or Johnstone

Defenders (4):
Smalling, Jones, Bailly, Blind

Fullbacks (4):
Valencia, Darmian, Shaw, Rojo

Midfielders (5):
Carrick, Schneiderlin, Pogba, Herrera, Fellaini

Wingers (4):
Mkhitaryan, Lingard, Martial, Memphis

No.10 (2):
Rooney, Mata

Strikers (2):
Zlatan, Rashford

With the likes of Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe, Borthwick-Jackson, Januzaj, Schweinsteiger, Pereira and Wilson all still at the club.

I'd like to have Fosu Mensah in and around the squad, not to mention he's versatile so I think he'll be in the 23. I think Borthwick Jackson is a better full back than Rojo too so if we can offload Rojo I'd be happy with that. Wonder who the others will be for the squad he uses.

I'd like Januzaj to be given a chance, he still has a lot to prove and he's up against some stiff competition so not sure you can justify it? Maybe a loan might be best to see if he can finally get the penny to drop.

So exicted for the season to get into full swing now. Hopefully we get a chance to see Pogba at the weekend too!

At the time we signed him he was absolutely a great signing, was tearing it up for Villa and was the first name on the England team sheet. He's been a good player for us, played everywhere and always looked happy to do so. Best wishes to him if he does leave.

Young definitely had his moments; lest we forget he was keeping Di Maria out of the first eleven when we hit that purple patch at the end of Van Gaal's first season. I do agree though that he never looked consistently special enough to be a first team regular.

Aside from his diveyness Young has been good, if not great. Popped up for some important goals, and was a good professional when being asked to sacrifice his natural game to the good of the team. It'll be nice to see him in an out and out attacking role again.

Fucking hell we've signed Pogba. Noice. Hope he plays in an attacking role and isn't shoehorned into a deep lying role somehow. Which is probably the weakest area of the squad, with Schweinsteiger seemingly being frozen out, Carrick not getting any younger, and Blind possibly still being considered as a defender. Even so, Pogba is now the star so you don't play him out of position, you build the team around him. I'm hoping Mourinho settles into something like this as a first XI:

       Martial Ibrahimovic

        Pogba Mkhitaryan

          Blind Schneiderlin

Shaw Valencia
          Bailly Smalling

              De Gea

I think we have strong competition for most places in this formation too, particularly in attack. You can make a really great XI without naming any of the above players, squad's looking great.

       Rashford Rooney

        Mata Lingard

          Carrick Herrera

BoJack Darmian
          Rojo Fosu-Mensah

              Romero

Obviously this relies on Mourinho dropping one of Rooney or Ibrahimovic occasionally. I do think we'll struggle with two exceptionally talented but ultimately old and slow forwards trying to play off each other, there will be no space in behind to take advantage of. Hopefully they can rotate and share the role without much fuss. A 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 could work very well too, with either Mkhitaryan or Pogba moving inside. Don't know where that leaves the likes of Memphis, Januzaj or Fellaini. I expect there will be some players moving on loan at the very least before the transfer window closes.

its more likely to be this with lingard making way for mikey

              Ibrahimovic
Martial Rooney mikey (probably replacing lingard after a game)
                 Poggers
                 Carrick
Shaw Valencia
          Bailly Smalling

              De Gea

Blind (once smalling is match fit) wont get anywhere near the starting lineup, and i can see him being shifted before the slamming of the window.

Carrick will keep Schniederlin out of the starting lineup for most of the time. I dont see Herrera getting a look-in in a central midfield role with pogba about. with his play making, the other central midfielder will need to be able to cover the back four and provide a bit of composure and to kick start the play out from the back, Carrick has been doing that, but i'd like to see him swapped out for Schniederlin in that position

I can see  this being Rooneys final season at the club, as i'd love to see Mikey in Rooneys number 10 position and Lingard out on the wing (watch us come back to this point at the end of the season after rooney has managed to blast in 20+ goals)

Pogba's game isn't really about play making though. He can pass, for sure, but he can also dribble and run at people and shoot. If he's in a position where he can't freely do those things, well, that's going to be a tremendous waste.

With Carrick getting on, someone has to provide that positional sense to screen the back four, and distribution of the ball from deep. Blind is the most likely replacement, and given that we haven't signed anyone of that ilk, you have to assume Mourinho is going to trust him in that role, at least in the short term. Schneidlerlin didn't start very often last season, and I think that was mainly because he's quite limited in possession compared to our other midfielders. That should be less of a problem now, considering the players he'll be surrounded with, we shouldn't be relying on him for creativity. He can do well in a box-to-box role for us I think, ideally I'd want to see him getting in amongst the goals.

Pogba is probably going to be wasted until Rooney gets dropped and you go 4-3-3. He looked lost at the Euros when Deschamps moved to 4-2-3-1.

I wouldn't say wasted as he's an upgrade on all the players that we've got in midfield regardless of role. What I do agree with is that we won't see the best of Pogba and what he's capable of if he's playing in a midfield two with Rooney in the #10 role ahead of him.

Also, unlike Deschamps I very much doubt Jose will use him in a deep lying role.

He has to though if Rooney is going to play (and Rooney obviously is going to play, at least initially). I can't see any other way of fitting them into an XI using a formation that suits the other players.

Well judging by pre-season so far one of the midfield two have been given more freedom to get forward. Its generally been Felliani or Herrera when partnered with Schneiderlin or Carrick. So Pogba could replace either of the former two but I very much doubt he'll be playing the role Schneiderlin and Carrick have been playing.

you don't shoehorn a player you've paid 90odd million for, he'll be played in a position that suits him best,  at that price, it's got to work.

Whilst I agree with this. We have a Rooney problem.

He either needs to get back to some semblance of a half decent footballer or be dropped and moved on. Sick of him being a passenger in games.

man that pogba vid! i had no idea he was that quick!

and id be hapy if rooney was dropped, or put in midifield, as i cant see zlatan and rooney working, tjhey are too similar, but zlatan is simply better. Zlatan plus martial or rashford would be better, then there is some pace to play off him!

and anyone seen the vid on here of Callum Gribin! great stuff haha
