The old Man Utd Thread

It was a lovely goal from Mata.  There was a fantastic touch from him in the build-up.  The worry from today's performance though, is that the team that started is (Pogba notwithstanding) likely to be the first choice team for the first match, and they were not good.  We looked much better when Mata and Rashford came on.  Rashford looks our most intelligent attacking player, and I hope he gets a fair crack next season.  Valencia had a great game, three assists.

Here you go - watch it before it gets taken down!

Galatasaray looked stronger and had more energy in the first half thats for sure. Also, its the first time Schneiderlin, Zlatan, Rooney and Martial have played this season after just coming back to training. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Zlatan showed some good touches other than his goal and looks like the players have really taken to him. Martial looked good but I think the biggest plus were Mata and Depay when they came on. Two players much maligned but looked really sharp and confident when brought on.

Defending was a bit shit at times mind, could be a problem going forward.

Yeah Blind is not a CB for the Prem.

A CB should be commanding and be a captain like figure. Someone like Williams or Terry.

Smalling is just about OK he does well at times but he's not a leader. Too squeaky.

my only issue with Smalling is, when he has the ball at his feet and has realised he's in possession of the ball rather than defending, he doesn't know what to do with it, so ends up running forward and spooning it someplace random in panic.

Yeah, its something he's always had an issue with. That being said he's improved and I want my defenders first and foremost to be able to defend!

What do we reckon's happening with Poggers then? Another week's passed and it's just been the usual media circus shite. I'm getting bored of it now, so would just like an answer one way or the other. It does feel like he's holding out for Real's offer to me though.

I think he's only just come back from his holiday. They've probably given him a day off to get over jetlag or whatever, then there will be the final contract stuff, and his medical.  It is dragging on, but I don't think it's hit a hitch.

Having said that, I'm still convinced that it's not going to happen.

Pogba is on holiday till the 6th August, I wouldn't expect to hear anything till then I reckon.

Still don't think it will happen mind. These transfers rarely go our way, but we'll see.

Rooney's testimonial tonight and the Community Shield on Sunday, but we are going into the season a little undercooked perhaps?

I'm not too worried about the amount of friendlies, shame the Man City game was cancelled but rather that then players getting injured. Still got 2 games to go too with tonight and the Charity Shield on Sunday.

I fancy us to do well on Sunday against the Champions, which incidentally, I've been lucky enough to get tickets for; very much looking forward to seeing Jose's United up close.

Considering the likes of Dortmund have had 6/7 pre-season matches already, they are certainly ahead in terms of preparation for their season. I reckon we might play at more of a "real" match tempo tonight in Rooney's testimonial.

Hope you have a good day on Sunday. I'm pretty confident we'll win. I know, right? Me, confident. What the fuck is going on?

What time's the match tonight, and is it on TV anywhere?

Manchester Evening News are reporting that the Poggers deal is practically done and he'll be announced next week. I don't know how accurate they are though.

Mourinho has been all but confirming it. His quote is something along the lines of, "We're signing a top midfielder. We've got 22 players now, we'll have 23 soon. I don't like to talk about players of other teams, he's a Juventus player at the moment and will be until he isn't."

He's also hit back at Klopp and Wenger's criticism of the fee, which is a bit of a hint.
