If knowing that winning this match will get them into the champions league doesn't fire them up enough to beat West Ham, then there's something seriously wrong. My money points to the management. Doesn't fill me with much confidence that we'll get the FA Cup now.

At least there's no way Louis will be with us next season now, so that's something to be happy about.

While I can sort of agree with the sentiment, you are doing that West Ham side a massive disservice. They are a very good team and had a massive help with that crowd and the occasion. That does not forgive how we performed in the first half, and presumably after our goal to take the lead (my stream crapped out as soon as Martial put it in the net), but beating West Ham was never the formality you seem to be implying, regardless of what it meant for us.

Oh definitely, all credit to West Ham, but my point is that it should never have got to this. We haven't moved forward since Fergie left, for many reasons, with LvG being a major one in my opinion. He simply has to go.

Liverpool fan in peace!

That second United goal last night was vintage United, really great break, and looked like you might repeat the FA Cup success, but guessing you've seen very little of that recently.

LVG is a strange one, doesn't strike me, looking in and putting bias to one side, as a particularly inspiring manager, even with a fairly decorated CV. Don't think Mourinho is a great fit long-term either but seems a few of you feel the same way. Bilic is more in the mould of a young Fegurson type to me, and has West Ham playing decent football. Will be an interesting summer.

Strange as it sounds, if Liverpool continue to improve under Klopp, a strong United would be a good thing, simply because each club has rarely been good at the same time. Usually one rises as the other falls.

Nah, would still have had City beat us on goal difference.

I don't think this is quite right. If City lose to Swansea and we beat Bournemouth we will be fourth. If they get a draw, then we need to win by 19 goals...

It's academic anyway. It's not going to happen. Even if Swansea (who are in good form, actually) do us a favour, we'll find a way to balls it up. Probably by playing too conservatively against Bournemouth and drawing the game.

The damage was done earlier in the season, losing to Norwich, WBA, Sunderland, Bournemouth and the like, in insipid, aimless, largely shot-free performances. Last night's game was always going to be difficult, and we did well to come back into it, before being swept aside by an inspired West Ham side.

The bitter man in me wants to point out that for their first and third goals, it was the deflections that took the ball away from De Gea so they were a bunch of lucky swines. I shouldn't do that though. I really shouldn't.

I saw the video of the disgraceful thugs last night masquerading as West Ham fans throwing bottles at Man U's Bus. As a West Ham fan myself, this is embarrassing. They make our club look bad, they don't care about the club, if they did they wouldn't do it. All the real fans were in the stadium watching or watching on a TV somewhere. I hope they lock them all up, the twats.

Anyway, what a game! I know you really really needed the win and of course I'm happy you didn't win but what a cracking game of football. I wouldn't of been too disappointed if you would have scored to make is 3-3 in the end, we were pushing forward a lot and leaving gaps.

Van Gaal: "I have always said to Luke [Shaw] that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high, but now I cannot say that anymore because we are in the final.

As useless as he's been as a manager, he's better than any Twitter parody account when it comes to quotes.

With City winning, the rearranged game will be the worst ever atmosphere to a game. I can't think of a more fitting finale for LVG's reign.

I pray it's a false alarm but well done to the OT security if it isn't.

When is this gonna be replayed? Surely not before the Cup Final?

I would assume it'll have to be either tomorrow or the Wednesday after the final. If there was a genuine threat, and it seems so, tomorrow seems much too soon.

It won't be tomorrow.

I hope it proves to be a hoax ultimately and it was purely a precautionary measure to carry out a controlled explosion. Obviously more information will be forthcoming in the next few days, but everything points to it being an explosive device (with a phone) attached to a gas pipe; a device that has been designed to take thousands of innocent lives. Sickening.

EDIT - Looking like it was an 'elaborate hoax'.

Makes you wonder who did it and why then? Surely they'll be scouring CCTV for the suspects right now, and I can't imagine they're going to get away with it for long.

It was a training device used for training exercises, supposedly left there by a private company in error.

Sounds like a big security snafu, and sort of sums up the calamitous shithaus nature of the club these days.

A fuck up no doubt, but more by the private security company.  Sounds like someone on the day was doing their job, better this than presume oh we had that security drill the other day, it's probably part of that.

The incident is now being described as a "fiasco" which is an excellent word for it. I guess we're just that sort of club now. The kind that has fiascos. Hats off to the security team and the police, who dealt with the situation as it appeared very efficiently. How on earth did it happen though? This private security firm must be held responsible. You would have thought that if you were having a training exercise which involved dummy bombs being planted, then the absolute first priority would be to know how many fake bombs you've planted, and to make absolutely sure you take that many away at the end of the exercise! Any fool can see that you shouldn't be slapdash when planting fake bombs into a building that's going to have 70,000 people visiting at the weekend.

It's a great gesture by the club to refund the tickets and let any ticket-holders into the rescheduled match for free. Apparently this is going to cost the club £3m. Many people, particularly Bournemouth fans, will miss out though, due to being unable to make a Tuesday kickoff, and will lose the money they spent on transport. Fiasco is definitely the right word.

Tough call. Different qualities to both. De Gea's reflexes and agility are ridiculous. Schmeichel obviously had the huge presence and would scare the shit out of his own defenders and opposition players. Better distribution too. Can't have this conversation without giving Van see Sar a mention either. Unbelievable goalkeeper, if only we'd signed him sooner, he wasted a few years of his career at Fulham.
