The old Man Utd Thread

Who was it who said they wouldn't want Simeone? Champions League finalists and joint top of La Liga. Yeah, a real step down from the self-professed arrogant clown we've got now!

I'm not saying I wouldn't take Simeone, but it depends what you want for the next manager. You're not going to get much more attacking football than what we have already. He's basically a Mourinho Mk II (minus the money).

As much as his defensive side gets the plaudits, when they do attack they do it with a lot more thrust than most other teams. If they needed to score 4 goals every game I think they probably could without much of a change.

I enjoy watching Atlético but I feel that the majority of Man Utd fans wouldn't be happy with the way he sets his team up.  It's very much men behind the ball and counter. Atlético and Simone fit perfectly for me and it works very well. I'm not convinced it would work at Man Utd.

Not to mention, it would be another manager who hasn't managed in England and therefore a risk. We need to get this next appointment right.

I don't know. Compared to side to side stuff you suffered earlier in the season, sitting deep then blasting forwards is clearly an improvement.

I'd like him at Arsenal. I think having a philosophy is important, sticking with a manager and letting them implement it, but I'm not keen on sticking with a specific philosophy. That's just going to get more and more diluted over time unless you're very, very lucky and very, very rich. By which I mean "Barcelona".

He'd still be vilified for being too defensive though I think. You've met Man Utd fans right? Given the option of LvG next season or Simone I'd take Simone, but I'm not sure I'd take him over Mourinho at this point. With the latter being a safer option.

Its ok though, we'll probably still have LvG 'entertaining' us for another year.

Simeone is working at a club who can't afford to buy the best players and have to sell their star players at the end of every season. Given United's budget and squad I'm sure his tactics would change.

Sir Alex Ferguson ;)

Realistically speaking though, I think Mourinho stands out. He's the best of the obtainable ones right now.  Simone is an interesting one, despite what I've said previously I wouldn't say no. But I think he's more of a risk than Mourinho which is why he stand out for me.

It's not likely but I like what Pochettino has done with Spurs too.

I'd take Simeone over Mourinho because Simeone doesn't seem as likely to be an egocentric buffoon who will inevitably storm out of the club in three years after bringing the club into disrepute with his tired and embarrassing antics.

According to Wikipedia Atletico spent €146m in the summer. They don't 'have' to sell their star players, more like they ask to leave.

Boring, boring football.

I watched the game hoping for a Norwich win as local team, Norwich looked hopless and devoid of ideas but Man U looked worse - individual moment after a mistake won the game but as you say it was a terrible performance.

I can't believe we could still scrape 4th if we win both of our games. I wouldn't be surprised if we fucked it up though. What a mental season.
