The old Man Utd Thread

That really puts paid to any lingering hope that we might sneak into fourth place.

I wonder, do we have any realistic chance of getting Pochettino as our manager for next season? He's getting mentioned in the papers, and I personally would much prefer him to Mourinho, but I can't understand why he would leave Spurs to manage a much worse team. Is there a chance we could get him by driving a truck full of money to his house?

I guess they'll wait till it's confirmed no fourth place.... Martial and Rashford cannot be expected to create goals out of nothing. It is ok being "solid" but FFS bar the chance Martial created for himself...

Well played Spurs, but of course still want Leicester to win the title!!

While performances are bad, it's Van Gaal's seemingly complete ignorance of this fact that gets me most! Insisting that we were doing ok for 70 mins yesterday is stretching the truth.

After a decent first 15 mins, Spurs were the much better team and the only one that looked like scoring. Compounded by the fact that he took of Rashford for Young and let Young go up top by himself... I just don't know what he is doing anymore, and I don't think he does either.

I don't think we are completely out of the running for 4th just yet, but we need to be extremely lucky. No doubt West Ham will turn us over mid-week, but we have to show that we are actually trying! An FA Cup victory would appease fans enough to take a positive vision into next year, but not enough to keep Van Gaal in a job. I think that's the best we can hope for.

Young was sent on to win free-kicks off Vertonghen, which sort of worked a bit. I don't understand the thinking particularly, as we weren't exactly dominant in the air against them, so what were we going to do with the free-kicks anyway, and it meant that our attack were blunted by having a midfielder/full-back up top.

It wouldn't have mattered if we'd had Superman up there though. Spurs were better than us in every department, despite us not playing particularly badly in spells. Their pressing meant our passing went to shit, and we kept giving the ball away by cocking up short passes in the second half. We couldn't hold the ball, never mind create anything.

Rashford was fantastic tonight.  Not just his goal, he was brilliant throughout, beating players, linking up with Martial, making clever moves and runs.  There was a moment in the first half when he received the ball in the penalty area and just stopped dead for an instant before gliding past a couple of now wrong-footed defenders before getting in a shot.  That kind of football intelligence and ability to put defenders off-balance is a rare thing.  What he did to Demichelis was no fluke.  LVG would be mad to put Rooney back in ahead of him at the moment.  Sadly of course, LVG is indeed quite, quite mad.

I think it probably was a penalty, by the way. Forsu-Mensa got the ball at the second attempt, but I reckon his left leg had swung round and caught Barkley by then.

Cleverly just missed an open goal. We're rocking here, and may rue the missed chances.
