The old Man Utd Thread

To be fair since he changed it up at HT, Utd have looked a lot better.

I think the main problem is that nobody really cares about this tie/competition/season. Might as well be pre-season as everyone waits for him to get sacked.

Very dispiriting to see Liverpool get right back on top after bringing Firmino on. We've only looked good for about 15 minutes of this game. 2-0 is very flattering.

*edit*

I meant when he moved forward into the false 9 role, obviously.

This isn't true at all.  This competition was our only real chance of qualifying for the Champion's League.

Anyway, the tie is over.  We needed to score an undeserved away goal to stand a chance of clawing it back.  It's frustrating that both the goals were poor decisions from the officials (Henderson was a foot offside in the build-up for the second) but we can't argue that we deserved anything more than a bit of a thrashing.  We were terrible.

That's loss number 1. I just hope Louis is moving a bit closer to the exit.

I reckon by a week on Sunday we'll be out of the Europa, FA Cup and have no chance of claiming that 4th place league spot. If they don't fuck him off after that, then there's something seriously wrong.

Can we just end the season now?

This squad needs a(nother) massive overhaul. The likes of Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Memphis, Jones, and the other liabilities can fuck off.

We desperately lack leadership and someone who can change a game. The worrying thing is though that Van Gaal, for all his faults, has given opportunities to some really promising youth players who wouldn't have had a look in under Mourinho. I don't want to see Varela, Borthwick-Jackson, Fosu-Mensah and Rashford demoted.

Scholes is right - we're a shambles.

Especially when they've shown fuck all to justify being given a free pass to re-enter the first team.  Jones I'm fine with, as back-up he's better than, say, equivalent players at similarly placed clubs, but sod the rest.  I'd much rather have seen Nani stay rather than having Memphis do whatever it is he actually does.  Will we improve under different management?  I think we can all agree it can't get worse but a sideways move is incredibly likely if Woodward is going about business as usual and signing up flavours of the moment and big names.  I don't want to see Mahrez and the like being signed, I'd rather we promoted the youth who've shown they have the desire and quality to step up, ship out all those who are pointless squad players and get a couple of important players in like Aubameyang and a central defender.

We could be completely out of the Champions League reckoning in a couple of weeks if we lose to West Ham and City, and complete the Eurovision League exit against Liverpool. I wonder if the board would act then, or wait until it was mathematically impossible to qualify.

On the other hand, if we beat West Ham and City consecutively, we'd be right back in it. I've never been an optimist, though.

Aren't Real banned from transfers at the moment though?

Nah the ban is temporarily suspended so they will probably be busy. I think at least one of Isco and James will go - tbh I wouldn't be surprised if James ended up with you if he does leave.

I'd forgotten that the West Ham game is in the cup.  We do still have a home game against them to come.  The City game is hugely important still, so we'll definitely not turn up for it and get beaten.

If only you'd read my last couple of posts in here, we could have avoided this confusion and celebrate the sacking of van Gaal together!

You actually have an away game against us, that was supposed to be St Georges day but now postponed . Getting ready to leave my hotel to head up to OT. A little more confident than usual, but who knows. Should be a cracker either way. Will be posting shit in Twitter most of the afternoon.

We were lucky to get away with that.  Our goal shouldn't have stood - Schweinsteiger definitely fouled their keeper as the ball came over.  If we do claw our way through the tie though, the cup has opened up, with Arsenal and City getting knocked out.

Honestly, I don't think he's likely to go before the end of the season.  In fact, the FA Cup provides a potential face-saving get-out for both LVG and Woodward (who is apparently reluctant to sack LVG, as his appointment would be seen as a failure.)  If United win the cup, LVG could make way, and the club and manager could provide the decision as mutual.  Woodward could point to LVG winning something, and LVG could end his career with a trophy in his final game.  The turd in the ointment of course, is that we most likely won't beat West Ham, never mind actually win the competition.

I think Woodward is just afraid to sack Van Gaal because he would rather give his replacement a fresh start in July. Sacking him now and letting Giggs take over (if he'd even want to) might mean things get worse before they get better.

Chaps, you got yourselves out of a hole today, and will lose the replay. I have never said that with such confidence in over 30 yrs of supporting the hammers. If I'm wrong good luck, but what I watched at OT today was a pale imitation of Man U.
