The old Man Utd Thread

Same story as ever, we look poor when playing against a team that sit deep and defend in numbers. Our best attacker, Martial, was sacrificed (in a sense) to accommodate Memphis by moving out to the right. Why not move Mata wide, drop Rooney deep (where he eventually ended up anyway), and let him play through the middle?

Why would they have given up on wanting to be in the Champions League? The tactics are all wrong.

Louis just has to go now. I'd rather Giggs take over until the end of the season. It couldn't be any worse.

I'm in work today, so I haven't been able to follow the match. Did we really lose to Sunderland? Just when we seemed to be improving, as well.

Top four is pretty much gone now, and deservedly so. We're pretty mediocre, and some way short of the teams in the CL positions.  This result also feels like the final nail in LVG's coffin. If the reports that Mourinho will be taking over next season are true (and as even the BBC are reporting it as fact that the club and Mourinho have had talks, it seems very likely they are) then I kind of wonder what we're waiting for. Why not give him the job now, see if the new manager boost could propel us back into CL contention, and give the players a few months to get used to his methods.

This is a pretty depressing post to write. Wanting Mourinho in sooner rather than later... good grief.

Is there anyone else right now?  They're clearly waiting to not make the CL again so they don't have to spend out on compensation, with another Giggs interim until the end of the season.  The Europa League won't happened, it was a joke last time as we underestimated Bilbao, they were so much better than us.  I forgot that the match was on yesterday and left in the half-time break forgetting that it hadn't finished, utterly uninspiring shit.  Mourinho would do what, maybe, maybe make top five?  He got fired for good reason, the only possibility of a decent high-profile manager has gone (Guardiola), do we want to take the chance of another Moyes in the form of Pochettino, or is he the real deal?  I think he'd make a mistake coming to us considering what he's achieved this season.

I think Mourinho would be great. He wins things, always has. I expect he'll also have been doing some soul searching as to what went wrong at Chelsea, and I'd expect him to have learnt from it, rather than just wade in spraffing off about stuff from day one.

I'd also be surprised if the club hasn't got a deal in place already, given 4th appears lost, and as ABC says above, they'll just be waiting to confirm it before sacking him.

He didn't learn from the first time round at Chelsea or Real Madrid. Mourinho does not need to learn anything because he is exactly what he is.

He will win trophies given the correct backing but it will be a short term fix because he will use established players to the detriment of youngsters.

Those established players, after a few years will do exactly what has happened at his other jobs.

When a club takes Mourinho on they know what it is they're signing up to.

why would they wait until getting into the Champions League isn't a possibility. Surely the money lost would be more than the money they'd have to pay him off with if they got rid now?

For me, we're only 6 points of 4th, but leaving Louis in charge doesn't fill me with any hope we could claw that back. Getting rid might just give the team the kick up the arse they need to pull it back before the end of the season.

I can't think of any good reason why we'd stick with him, after he's proven time and again that he just doesn't get it with the Prem.

If Martial is playing up front and Mata is in behind (i.e. if they're both in their natural positions) it does leave things very bare on the wings though. We'll just have to hope Depay improves, keep Lingard on the right, and continue letting the fullbacks bomb forward to try and mask our deficiencies on the flanks. I'm assuming Rojo and Valencia will be back soon. I hope Borthwick-Jackson continues on the left anyway, he's doing great. Love on the other hand has looked pretty shaky and not very effective in attack, would want to see him replaced ASAP really, even if that means promoting the similarly inexperienced Varela.

I completely forgot Valencia still played for us and only yesterday had to Google what was going on with him. Also, what Januzaj has done to deserve his treatment is beyond me. He's still young and will make mistakes, but he has potential that won't be realised when he can't even get into squads! I fear for the result tonight.

That article Fox posted earlier makes an excellent point regarding the treatment of Januzaj, Hernandez, Herrera, Di Maria, and others - if Woodward and the owners were as quick to judge and discard as Van Gaal has been towards certain players, he'd be long gone by now.

So that makes 14 injured players now.

It's fine though. After the amount we've spent on players over the last couple of seasons, surely we've got plenty of cover... Right?

Januzaj was injured a short while ago I thought in an under-21 game?

Otherwise I'd be there with you on that one, I have him on my shirt.

Why the bollocks are we trying to cross the ball?  IT DOESN'T WORK!  Just take it up the middle and have some shots.
