The old Man Utd Thread

I know it's not a popular idea but I'd personally love to see José at Utd. I reckon his "fuck you" attitude is exactly what some of these players need. Their nonchalance is pissing me off so much this season! They look like they could not care less that we're 2 goals down at home.

This is bad. Norwich are pretty hopeless. We shouldn't be struggling at home to them, never mind getting comfortably beaten.

If we don't come back and win this - and a draw isn't really good enough either - then LVG has to go. I don't like the idea of Mourinho taking over, I think we should already be talking to Guardiola.

Haven't won in six games, and three of our opponents have been Leicester (I know they're doing fantastically well, but still), Bournemouth and Norwich. All while playing football that could be sponsored by Ambien. Maybe Ancelotti fancies a warm up gig before he goes to Bayern?

Worried about the Chelsea game now, as we really seem to be struggling against relegation threatened sides.

Fuck this. Get shot of LVG, get an interim manager in for the rest of the season, Giggsy perhaps, or even Warren Joyce - anyone really, and tell Guardiola he can name his price.

Apologies to any Norwich fans who might read this next bit as it is kind of disrespectful, but how can a squad including the likes of Martial, Mata, Memphis Depay, Rooney, Schweinsteiger, De Gea, Carrick, Schniederlin, Herrera, etc lose at home to Norwich?

On a serious note though, this situation needs sorting out. He simply has to go. Last year I thought he did well. He seemed to get us playing with a bit of spirit again and he got us back in the top four and into the champs league. From there though, it hasn't been so rosy. As a team we've gone backwards. His acquisitions and players sold hasn't worked. His tactics are far too defensive and negative. He just simply isn't forward thinking enough and he's most definitely not the right manager to bring us back the swagger. We need someone who can back up their attitude with results and galvanize the team.

I really hope that the board have secretly been in discussions with Guardiola and have offered him the chance to bring glory back to Old Trafford, to leave his legacy, but I'm not sure that we have the right people behind the scenes capable or even driven enough by the history of the club to make that happen.

I imagine we'll end up with José. So long may our tag of boring, boring Man United continue.

Has Pep announced where he's off yet? Wasn't he supposed to say after their match today?

What's facepalm-worthy about that? It seems likely England will be his next destination and the Man Utd brand and history still has a ton of pull for nearly any world class manager, even if we've performing poorly since Fergie left.

I really really really don't want Mourinho at the club. We passed over him first time for a reason, even though he was clearly desperate to come when Fergie left. I just don't want his antics associated with the club. He ultimately ends up being an embarrassment and liability to any club he joins, regardless of the silverware he brings in.

Bayern and Barcelona have elevated themselves over other clubs through continuity. They have strong academies and excellent long term planning (something we need to work on), so even if managers don't stay for more than 2-3 seasons they remain on course. Mourinho has never shown himself to be particularly capable of fitting into a structure like that, blooding youth and making the best of signings that weren't his. He would be a good short option, but I feel we'd risk falling away in the long term by picking him.

If Mourinho is the outstanding candidate available if we sack Van Gaal, then I don't think we should sack him. I would prefer we wait till the summer, assuming we get back into the top four. If Guardiola is available then, great. If not, we try to find the next best candidate. Pochettino could be a good choice.
