The old Man Utd Thread

He can be recalled if need be. No point having him on the bench or in the 'stand just in case'. He needs football, he's stagnated in the last 12 months and I'm sure this loan move will do him the world of good.

Which is why he should be played in the first team and not left to rot. If he was going to be loaned it should've been at the start of the season, it was obvious he was never going to get game time so it seems strange/silly that he's gone now. Rooney has been awful and Martial has hit a cold patch so why didn't he get games? He won't be recalled unless Rooney dies.

It is a bit weird that we've signed these two really exciting and obviously talented young forwards in Memphis (this appears to be what he prefers to be called rather than Depay, so that's what I'm going with) and Martial but still look so turgid in attack. I guess 3 - 5 - 2 really needs fullbacks and midfielders that can play box-to-box, and our players that can provide that (Herrera, Shaw, Valencia) are all out, but then why play that system? It also needs forwards who are free to work the channels and support each other. The fact that they weren't doing that and were largely sticking wide suggests that the tactic was mainly a defensive ploy. I guess we were playing away from home against the league leaders, so we'll take a draw, but the last time they played against top class opposition they go trounced. Our three centre backs were all up the field for a set play when they scored anyway, so it's not like the extra numbers made any difference. They could've been there for the taking, but the system we used doesn't take the risks necessary to capitalise on that. I guess there is a long term plan and you can't argue with where we are on the table, but it does make a dreadful watching.

Dull as hell save for the last 20 minutes. Needed De Gea and the post to keep us in it, as West Ham had 4 or 5 clear chances before that. Van Gaal was booed off at the end. Pretty dire all around.

Was pretty infuriating to watch, our movement upfront was pitful with Fellaini and Martial often on opposite flanks when we were trying to break, and only Lingard moving in between the lines with any degree of effectiveness. West Ham worked very hard off the ball but we could've made them work a lot harder. Could've gone top today, but that didn't inform the approach as far as I can tell.

It's rather depressing to hear that we're apparently just planning to sit back, let City get Guardiola and stick with LVG for the three years, though I suspect things might change if we don't qualify from our Champion's League group and then look like slipping out of the top 4.

I don't even watch the games anymore, it's borderline scandalous that hundreds of millions have been spent on a team grinding out 0-0 draws. I don't even see improvement anymore, we've stagnated into a turgid bore of a team.

Yeah, I watch us play every single weekend, but I haven't been able to muster any enthusiasm to turn the game on the past couple of weeks. It's so depressingly predictable that I just get infuriated. Can't be arsed. Wake me up when we're fun to watch again.
