The old Man Utd Thread

The way Tyler was celebrating Martial's goal (which was good, but hardly that good), I think containing expectations for him might be tricky.

Anyway, you thoroughly deserved the win. We were terrible (again) and have another long hard season ahead.

A grinding performance, in a match that feels better than it probably was because of two world class goals near the end. We needed that strike from Martial, as we had switched off after the second goal and were inviting Liverpool onto us.

A great performance from our back four again. Shaw and Darmien are just consistently fantastic in different ways, Smalling did well again, and Blind coped admirably with Benteke (he couldn't do much against that wonder-strike) scored a good goal, and made an excellent double goal-line save at 1-0.

We still need to get our creative players such as Mata and Memphis properly involved, though, and we shouldn't get carried away with a home win against a dreadful Liverpool team who were missing their best player.

Edit because I'm moaning too much - dem goals though. Football poetry.

i wouldnt quite say that. Blind still doesnt convince. I can quite happily wait an eternity for Diego Costa to run at him.

I think he's great. Most defending these days happens along the floor, and we have a relatively tall and powerful back line besides him anyway. At set pieces we have other players who can mark their biggest threats. His reading of the game is probably better than anyone else we have, and it's great having him back there to bring the ball out. Him and Smalling just seems just such a good balance, they both excel in their own way and complement each other nicely.

Up to second in the league! How did that happen?

Because everyone has been really bad besides City.

Yeah, but it's going to make things so much easier for him now, in terms of settling in and gaining confidence. His teammates mobbing him, the fans going mental, he's going to remember that moment for the rest of his life. We've had other players score great goals on their league debuts and then not work out for some reason (Welbeck and Macheda spring to mind) though so I don't think anyone's about to go overboard.
