The Man Utd Thread

Ultimately, a late goal was probably unlikely anyway after Rashford comes off and with Fernandes having an off night. Had Ole swapped Fred for Matic/Pogba/VDB at 65 minutes PSG likely still score. Sub after that goal there's nothing to say a goal for United was likely. Maybe it would have stayed at 1-2 though. United so ahead on goal difference in the group that it probably won't matter. Although if PSG smash Istanbul and we get Bayern next round...

Martial hasn't had a shot on target in the premier league...but his shot on target here meant Rashford pulling it back and getting some luck. Had VDB been on instead of Martial then that goal doesn't happen but might he have finished that open goal chance, or maybe he doesn't pick up that position. I know football doesn't work like this cos we don't know how each individual player's movement and decision making alters a game, but lets say with the brief moments a player gets then a game largely plays out the same when one is replaced.

What's frustrating is that Ole doesn't trust his subs. What are VDB, Pogba and Matic thinking sat on the bench watching that? That Fred is so far above us that he can be on a yellow with a ref looking to correct an earlier mistake against a pacey team where a late red is extremely likely, yet the boss would prefer risking the champions league on that gamble. Our skills, efforts, impact is so incomparable. It's not ridiculous to say this given Pogba left United when he couldn't get a game but 37 year old Scholes came back.

For me it's that the red kills all momentum and PSG do score late. Fred is not an attacker crucial in getting that goal. If it was prime Scholes, Keane I'd say the same.

Yeah I didn't get that either. Andy Brassell was on the football ramble saying Cavani hasn't played much this year, and 'had the best kind of pre season some would say in Uruguay riding horseback and chopping wood'.

It's just unfair on Greenwood, Pogba and VDB to get only 10-15 minutes to score a goal because with Rashford and Cavani off it falls on them. Post game no one (as in, here, reddit, podcasts) seems to recall Pogba's spectacular volley which would have made up for the last few months of nothingness.

Funny game where 3 players all with their own stories this year each had their moment to score which would have been a big deal for them.

That chance was almost brilliant, yet came to nothing, much like Pogba - the almost man.

Looking ahead to Leipzig... it's going to be a nervy night, but if we can keep the game tight early on, the mathematics of the group make it nicely set up for us to invite them on to us and counter.

Thinking back to the top 4 finish going down to the wire last season, this team does have form for throwing away chances to make things comfortable with a game in hand, and then performing well when it really matters. We're away from home as well which seems to help.

Will be in the north east corner, very similar to the setup at Celtic Park. Long way to go until the benefits of rail seating are at all relevant of course, with probably only limited numbers being allowed into stadiums until at least the end of the current season.
