Rock Band!

However after 2-3 years of use my Rock Club Pedal is finally looking at retirement. We're working with one of our regulars to make a double pedal setup with actual triggers.

Again the trouble is that actual triggers don't put out a signal that a Rock Band kit will understand. You could use an Alesis Trigger I/O to translate your trigger inputs to MIDI, then feed that to the Rock Band MIDI adapter - but then you'd need triggers for the coloured pads as well.

(The ghetto solution would be to buy the Madcatz portable drums - which are just four RB pads, sans frame, on curly leads with a jack plug each - and just mount them on your existing RB drums, then plug those into your Trigger I/O. But then if you're buying something like a Trigger I/O you are possibly beyond the point of ghetto solutions).

The newer kits (RB2/Beatles/RB3) allowed double kicks as standard, with two ports on the back.

I think even the RB1 kit had two ports, but the second one didn't do anything. It's a long time since I've seen it to be honest, it ended up being used solely as additional cymbal triggers on my old housemate's electronic kit.

We've not discussed it in amazing detail yet (mainly because when we talk is usually whilst I'm trying to run the event) but it's my understanding that he's made his own version(s) of this: http://www.newenglandmusicsupply.com/rock-band/rock-band-kick-box/prod_187.html which should address the issue. If it goes down a dead end, I'll just make another RCL Pedal and be done with it :)

Oh that ought to work just fine - looks like it takes the 1/4" jack input from your standard piezo kick trigger (eg Yamaha KP65, Roland KD-9 etc) and puts out a RB-compatible signal.

Good luck with it, it should be worlds apart from the standard pedal, and probably still an improvement over your old RCL pedal (if only because it'll take any standard drum pedal, so it'll be easier to upgrade or repair in future.)

Edit: just re-read your posts and checked out the RCL page. You're using an Ion kit, so of course some of what I was saying doesn't apply.

They didn't. The extra port was an expansion port that never ended up being used. It wasn't an extra kick pedal port.

It has been used as one though. The Pro Kit can use two pedals, and there are a selection of RBN (Rock Band Network) tracks with two pedals charted.

(I've also posted this in the "What games did you complete in 2015?" thread.)

I finished LEGO Rock Band tonight.

I got this on release back in 2009 and while I did put a fair bit of time into it back then, I never quite got around to completing the main story mode. Now I have.

If I'm honest, it was a bit of a grind by the end. Reminded me why I never managed it first time around. Coming back to the game after such a long layoff was nice though. Like all the LEGO games, it has a lot of heart.

I never finished it either. I'm fairly sure I'd unlocked every song, and generally when I get that far in a Rock Band or Guitar Hero game I've been happy enough. Since RB3 came out, I've had no need to specifically fire it up but I feel I probably should just for the story mode - after all, one of my favourite Rock Band experiences in single player is this:

lolz

I was at the bus station trying to find my misplaced whooly hat yesterday and I asked the guy where the 'LostProphet' was instead of Lost property. I was all like FUUUUUU...

My rockband skills have totally cratered since I stopped playing it regularly. The ending of Suffragette City caused some pain in my fretting hand last night :(

I would pay a non-trivial but sub-£39.99 amount of money for an actual Queen LEGO set tbh

Lego Rock Band was amazing. I bet they're kicking themselves that they included Rooftops by Lostprophets in a game aimed at kids, though.

That came up as one of my random songs while I was grinding out the end of story mode. I muted the sound, which seems a bit irrational when I think about it now, but I just don't want to hear yer man's voice ever again, really.

Nice work! I could never nail that Final Countdown solo properly. RB HOPOs are just too strict to be fun.

So I bailed with one achievement remaining. :( It still stings.

Oh I just meant finished story mode. I too am missing the Final Countdown one, along with the "all four band members score 100% on a song" one because I don't have enough friends who care about that sort of thing.

Where do you live?

Cambridge at the time, Gravesend now.

If you look at my Xbox profile you'll see I've got most of the solo achievements in most of the GH/RB games, but not all that many of the multiplayer ones. My friends have mainly been more into casual/party play rather than score attacking and 100% runs and stuff.

Also some of the multiplayer achievements are just daft. The one for hitting every 3-part harmony in every song in Rock Band The Beatles is obvious lunacy - especially as only player 1 actually gets the achievement IIRC.

I dimly recall you being some kind of Yorkshireman, is that right? Yeah, probably too far indeed :(

That's right, Sheffield! We've got kids now so I can grow my own band to play with. The little one only seems to like Smash Mouth at the moment though :(

All this talk of RB really makes me want to play it again. I never made it through to the end of What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse on Expert Drums.

Almost though... almost.

I'm definitely tempted to crank up Lego Rock Band and play through the career mode from the beginning with my partner. I won't have all the songs I have in RB3, but I've just found myself really hankering after the Lego/RB humour mix after some of the earlier posts..

I couldn't remember if I had or not, so I checked out rockbandscores.com and it looks like I never did either. And as noted, I don't currently have any RB drums to give it another go :(

Edit: I just checked out the video:

I reckon I could probably at least pass that now. I'm better than I was then. The grind beats don't sound like they're any faster than some of the stuff I do in Shoulder of Orion - check out 4:24 onwards in this video for an example:

Did that new dlc ever show up? I can't find it on the store or in game.

I saw it listed in the in-game store (360), but it was showing as 0 MSP and wouldn't let me actually buy it. I think they fixed that and someone here did buy it though, hang on...

On a more positive note, the Xbox marketplace final decided today that it wanted to Take My Money and let me buy the Arctic Monkeys track, to go with the Foo Fighters one I was able to buy the other day. Unfortunately the Rock Central servers for the leaderboards were inaccessible.

^^^ there it is. Dunno about PS3 though, if that's your bag.

I have to do the blast beats cross-over as he does a 2:45 as my left hand isn't strong or quick enough. I should really get back on this as I've started drumming again and it's great timing practice.

EDIT: Wow... I played a LOT of Rock band!
