Rock Band!

Nah, I'm a wuss. I'd almost certainly have failed a couple of the songs on anything else, and I wanted the Bladder Of Steel achievement.

At some stage I might go back and try and get it on guitar. There are no songs I can't pass, it's just that a few of them have some very sketchy moments. I failed out in the middle of Painkiller while playing lead in Ryanski's band last night. That would have been crushing if I'd been on a BOS run.

Just saw this on onion's twitter feed, bad news for future DLC.

Link

The rhythm game market can't exist without the cooperation of the music labels; these games need great songs to get the interest of gamers. According to new reports, Warner Music Group is playing hardball, and won't be giving up any of its songs or artists until MTV Games pays more money for the licenses. This could spell bad news for both Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Of particular interest to me (ie I would buy DLC by any of these, and in several cases already have):

A7X

Built To Spill

Deftones

Disturbed

Goo Goo Dolls

HIM

Mark Knopfler

Mastodon

Metallica

Muse

MCR

New Order

Stevie Nicks

REM

RHCP

Serj Tankian

Static-X

Wilco

There's a few others that I'm not so interested in, but that I know other people clearly would be:

Arctic Monkeys

Oasis

The Raconteurs

The White Stripes

etc.

There's a bigger list on Wikipedia but it's not clear exactly what Warner's involvement in all of them is, nor how many are current vs catalogue. Not that it matters, I suppose, as often it's catalogue tracks you'd want as DLC anyway.

Yeah, I think it's MTV basically boycotting Warner, because they are dicks. No new deals have been agreed since August of last year, so we should still see songs from the label for at least a few months, apparently (so yes, 'Nothing's Shocking' is still coming). But in turn, that means it'll be a long time after June (or something like that) until we see the next songs from Warner.

I want Mr Bungle.

HIM. So many of their songs are perfect for Rock Band. I'd love to do the vocals on 'em, would be immense fun.

I guess all that stuff Harmonix was spouting about how this Beatles game wasn't going to be Rock Band was crap then?

Also: Drumming is going to be a bit easy isn't it? I think even my crapness can keep up with Ringo.

EDIT: Specifically they said it wasn't going to be Rock Band-colon-Beatles. Instead its Beatles-colon-Rock Band?

Doesn't mean the drumming won't be fun!

BTW - can I just say: I'm glad that they realize its a good idea to sell the game-with-guitar bundle for $99. Rock Band 2 must have lost a lot of sales in the USA last Xmas to the GH:WT+Guitar bundle.

Of course here's hoping that they don't fuck up the instrument release in Europe. Every time I play on my PS3 with RB2 instruments, I think of you lot. ;)

they already have tbh.

repackaging and cutting the price on the old gear is the best we'll get, at least in the short term.

I meant for the Beatles game, not RB2. Presumably the Beatles instruments will be specific, making there less chance of them fucking it up, right? What am I talking about, this is EA.

Poor Ringo. The Beatles wouldn't have been any better for having Keith Moon or John Bonham now, would they? I wouldn't want a Moby Dick solo making a mess of Strawberry Fields or A Day in the Life, for example.

Anyway, the instruments should be cool. A version of George's "Rocky" strat would be great, albeit expensive.

Is it possible to play a band vs band on this (Rock Band 2)

I was always under the impression you could, yet last friday when we tried we couldnt find an option -the only one seemed to allow us to select a band member to play a 1 vs 1. We usually play on a friday night , and we have got to the stage we want to play against other people as a band.. but is it possible?

There is an ever-changing selection of challenges under Battle Of The Bands. If you both enter the same challenge, you will play a selection of songs and get a score at the end (weighted according to the number of people in your band and the level you are playing at) as well as a position in a challenge-specific leaderboard.

So the thing that makes this more special than "Rock band colon The Beatles" is unique peripherals? Oh well. Rock Band colon The Beatles will still be amazing.

If you're in a band, you should make the drummer get on vocals for Octopus's Garden/With A Little Help From My Friends/etc.

Now, I'm thinking how many Beatles songs actually rock. Like, for a full band.
