Rock Band!

Awesome. I wasn't expecting that. I'll definitely pick those ones up.

Did everyone get Thin Lizzy this week? I was sceptical of the live versions but it's good stuff. Just try and play the outro of The Boys Are Back In Town without a smile on your face. It's physically impossible.

Yeah, I was exactly the same: at first a flicker of doubt came over me when I saw the "(live)" bit, but it's so much fun to play...

Yeah, but it's Thin fuckin' Lizzy! They were one of the bands to see and I wish I was old enough to have done so (well the current form isn't bad...but it's just not the same :) ). You have played the live Who tracks, yeah?

I had a fault on my disc, so I rang the number in the manual, explained it to the customer service agent? and she gave me an address and told me to send the game back and that they would replace it.

2 month later I contacted them and they said they would replace that disc for $20 (despite contacting english people).

God knows what happened to my disc.

I did the Rock Band 1 Endless Setlist (a "mere" 65-odd songs) on drums - together with a bass player and a vocalist - and it was great fun, though very hard work. Took us seven hours including breaks. The breaks got more frequent as we progressed, as well - you don't realise how tired you're going to get, especially as you hit the harder songs at the end of the setlist.

Adding another 20 songs to the list would probably have finished us off. I take it you didn't try for the RB2 Bladder of Steel achievement which involves doing the whole lot without breaks?

Doing the Endless Setlist 2 was genuinely soul-destroying for me. Endless Setlist 1 was fun, a long haul, but fun. We started counting how many sons were left in ES2 after about 50 of them. And it was a depressingly high number.

Even doing it on Medium (and not failing at any point), it was just... gah. I didn't want to see Rock Band ever again. :)

HOLY SHIT

SNOOP DOGG IN ROCK BAND

That's just awesome!

In a move reminiscent of Jay-Z’s monumental deal with Live Nation, Snoop Dogg, who just split with longtime label Interscope Records, has announced that he will release his next album Malice In Wonderland, through MTV. He will also launch a new nighttime variety show called Dogg After Dark, and will leverage MTV’s popular Rock Band video game as a distribution platform. Deals like this speak volumes about the state of the majors. Or, at the very least, artists perceptions about the majors ability to effectively sell their music.

Full press release after the jump.

New York, NY – February 10, 2009 – MTV and rapper, icon, record producer, entrepreneur and actor, Snoop Dogg today announced a first-of-its kind global deal that will bring the entertainers’ personality to television in a new variety talk show, “Dogg After Dark,” and his music to fans with a new album release and into the best-selling music video game Rock Band®.

Premiering on Tuesday, February 17th at 9pm ET/PT on MTV, Snoop Dogg will host “Dogg After Dark,” a new jam packed weekly variety talk show from Los Angeles hotspot Kress on Hollywood Boulevard. “Dogg After Dark” will bring his Doggystyle swagger to the airwaves with raw interviews with A-list celebrities and musicians, hilarious sketch-comedy segments and musical performances from the hottest artists. The show will air every Tuesday night for seven weeks and feature Snoop’s own in-house band, the “Snoopadelics.”

“When Van Toffler and I sat down Boss to Boss, a global quintuple threat takeover was masterminded. As the world of entertainment keeps changing, we felt it was the right time to let Snoop Dogg back on MTV so we could continue to run thangs with music, movies, DVDs and bring Hip-Hop to Rock Band.” said Snoop Dogg. “So screw ya wigz on tight and tune in on Tuesday nights for the first step to the next level of Snoop D-O double G. Dogg after Dark is the only nightclub tv show hosted by you know who. So take a journey with me through the mind, body, soul and musical mind state of the most prolific, authentic game spitter. And tha sh*t is funny, so show me da money!”

“Snoop has been a mainstay across MTV screens for over a decade by pushing the boundaries of hip-hop with his signature antics, incredible catalogue of music, legendary videos, larger than life personality and even a little controversy,” said Van Toffler, President, MTV Networks Music / Films / Logo Groups. “I can’t even begin to imagine MTV, my tumultuous career and several raging ulcers without the Dogg being such a big part of our history. He is an undeniable international superstar whose talent and work transcend music, tv and film and we look forward to launching this new multidimensional partnership with the Doggfather.”

“From iconic VMA performances to DoggyFizzle Televizzle and everything imaginable in between, MTV has always been a home for Snoop’s music and comedic expressions and will continue to be that through this exciting new partnership,” said Amy Doyle, Executive Vice President of Music and Talent for MTV.

The Grammy-Award nominated rapper’s unprecedented deal with MTV will let loose Snoop Dogg’s upcoming, new album, Malice In Wonderland, with global distribution, marketing and promotion. Featuring some seemingly unlikely musical guests, the album will feature tracks by Dr Dre, Pharrell and Lalo Shifrin, is scheduled to be released later this year. In addition, songs from Snoop Dogg’s impressive catalogue of hits will be released on MTV’s hot-selling Rock Band® music video game platform.

“Dogg After Dark” is Executive Produced by Snoop Dogg. Tony DiBari, Tim Healy and Karen Frank are Executive Producers for MTV. Matt Parillo is Executive in Charge of Production. Fixed. Surely he's going to be censored to **** by Rock Band?

Yeah, this is my biggest niggle with RB and surely there's not much point in releasing something like Snoop Dogg unless you either allow swearing or are prepared to play it in a horrible radio-edit with loads of words blanked out.

The issue of swearing really needs to be sorted out by RB and GH. Having said that, I'd rather they blank out the swears altogether than change the lyrics, like the horrid cover of Police Truck on whatever version of GH that was on (Rocks the 80's I think?) as opposed to Police Truck as DLC on Rock Band. Both are lame cop-outs but at least blanking out the swears isn't quite as annoying and changing the lyrics.

Granted, this is less of an issue if you have a singer playing as they're obviously free to swear all they like, but it's much more annoying if you're playing without one.

And yes, I know there will be some parents out there who are glad there's no swearing in RB or GH. But that's really not the rest of the world's problem.

anyone thats know the proper words to songs, can swear.. ive done it with the censored songs in RB before.

Aye, of course. As I said, it's not really noticeable if you have a singer. If you don't it's really noticeable.

It'll be to do with age ratings presumably, but it's still annoying that albums can have as many swears as they like with only a parental advisory sticker whilst RB can't.

And I agree it doesn't make too much difference to most rock music, but if they're going to start expanding it to rap where, let's face it, every third word can be a swear then it's going to be waaay more annoying.

Turbonegro – Wasted Again

White Zombie – More Human Than Human

White Zombie – Black Sunshine

It's amazing how they just keep on finding ways to extract more money out of me.

In other news, I tried fixing my broken RB1 drums last night but with no success. I reckon my best option (until I can afford an Ion kit) would be to find a working pad from another kit and just swap out the broken red one.

Don't suppose any of you have a faulty RB1 kit that you're not planning to get exchanged? If so, I would gladly buy it off you for spare parts, or at least buy a functioning pad if it'd be handier to post.
