Singstar Pop Hits - Coming April

Singstar gives you a guide to singing the song exactly like the original version. Karaoke lets you sing it however you think it sounds, which presumably you have some idea of since you've chosen it from a list of thousands and it's something you recognise.

No. I'm saying don't understand how my voice and music are meant to match up. At all. I just don't get it.

The lines in Singstar are little rafts bobbing about in a sea of complete incomprehension.

Singstar is the perfect gateway drug to full on karaoke

Yeah, I agree with this.

To get a setup like mine, now I've done all the hard work, you need:

A PC or chipped XBox with XBMC (PC is a bit better)

50GB of disk space

Your Singstar mics, possibly a splitter to plug them both in

WinAmp

A little VB program I wrote

A printer and a ream of paper if you want to look at lists of songs

And you also need some way of getting the 50GB of data, which I am currently the sole possessor of. I suppose I could torrent it or something.

That gives you something like 7,500 songs, although you can probably knock a couple of hundred off for duplicates, which I occasionally try to remove from the database.

You are tone deaf then, I guess. And MID was amazing at Naughty Christmas.

I've been listening to a few American gaming podcasts recently, including 1up yours and the videogameshow from the Gamercast Network. Each time Singstar has been mentioned for the PS3 they've kind of treated it as a big joke.

Is Singstar really only big in Europe, cos going by some of these American Podcasts, they couldn't seem to care less about it.

Well the only one released outside of Europe so far has been Singstar Rocks in the US (last November), which was pretty pants to be honest. Basically they haven't yet had a decent version. Although the new one is getting release there in April too.

According to this test -

http://jakemandell.com/tonedeaf/

- I am not tone deaf, though I am slightly subnormal, which I can probably blame on the crappy monitor speakers and doing the test in the office with people talking around me.

I just don't know understand how to sing. Hey ho.

That's weird, and fascinating.

I'll try that test at home tonight.

I believe Singstar World is a launch game for the PS3 in the UK.

I intend to pick that up and rebuy may favourite songs from the previous Singstars and whatever else they will have at the Singstar shop.

I look forward to seeing some rllmuk performers posting their vids on the Singstar world site.

I will be subjecting you all to my rendition of 99 Red Balloons. :D

(If this post reads like Sony paid for it, that's because they did. :D )

They were valid critiscms 3 years ago. They were valid critiscms 2 years ago. They were valid critiscms when they released Singstar Mostly-Indie and then Singstar For The Gays. But every fucker and their dog knows them now. That poor mutt knows that PC's and pubs and dedicated machines all do better singing-into-a-mic.

I had no idea that the original vocals were on the tracks until I looked in this thread to see if they had added any tracks worth singing yet.

It's a terrible tracklist in terms of quality, but in my expirience the most fun songs in Singstar are the bright and breezy pop tunes, like McFly in whichever one it was, you know, they played golf. They're easy to sing, just simple harmonies and stuff, good on duet, have singing ALL THE WAY THROUGH and I feel much more comfortable butchering a song I won't listen to normally than I do singing an all time favourite knowing next time I hear it that I'll never manage a singstar rating in the song I really love... :(

I have no idea how Toot Toot Tootsie by Al Jolson is meant to be sung, but it's still my favourite karaoke song.

Ever seen Goodfellas? It's the song that Lorraine Bracco watches when the cops search her house.

Obviously your point is that you can sing songs in whatever style with a real karaoke machine, however you've gotta learn how to do Jolson's mad whistling for your next karaoke performance!

You'd've thought they'd've learned about putting Razorlight on these things. The guy doesn't fucking sing, he just sort of talks apart from on the occasional chorus, so it's completely wasted effort to try and play it properly.

Plus they're shite.
