Emulators for Windows Mobile

Recommended Posts

On my last WM phone I had a Speccy emulator called Pocket Clive which sort-of worked but not very well, and also a version of MAME that didn't really work at all (can't remember its name). Now that I've got an HTC P3300 with scroll wheel, it would be amazing to be able to play Tempest on it - are there any good emulators out there?

I could only get Mr Do , Moon Cresta and a couple of others to run under MAME.

Scummvm is brilliant with a touch screen phone.

theres a decentish snes emu too, I played through a few levels of GODS a while ago (cant remember the name now sorry)

Was it PocketCultMAME or something else that you were using? I remember Pacman was fine on PCM.

Aah, sorry - forgot to get back to this one :D

Your mileage may vary with these - I have an M3100 like Chris, with a slidey out keyboard which is ace for gaming and computer emulation.

pDOSBox: http://www.pocketwall.com/pDOSBox/

Pocket Cult MAME and Pocket Caprice (CPC emu): http://www.pocketcult.com/home.php

Pocket VCS (Atari): http://www.clickgamer.com/moreinfo.htm?pid...050bf0e49e32601

And my favourite - the delightful PocketUAE (Amiga):

Edit: check out MorphGear too - it's not free, but it supports a fair few things.

Great!

PocketWinUAE! :)

How well does it work with the M3100 Alan?

It's not amazing i'm afraid, and development seems to have come to a grinding halt. ;)

Still... clicking about in workbench is good enough for me. <_<

Ah well, I'll check it out.

There's a link to a version of Wolf3D from the UAE page anyway, which looks like it'll be worth a go!

I use an earlier version of that phone and run Scummvm

a 2 second google reveals http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=550

Amazing, I was about to post the same question!

Just been given one of these Orange SPV M3100 from work, of course to be able to check my email and edit Word documents on the move, but a bit of emulator action wouldn't go amiss.

Particularly interested to hear if there's a version of SCUMMVM that would work on it?

Hi all, first post I've made!

If you are interested in emulators on your Windows mobile then go to Modaco forums. There you will find the following:

Final Burn, simply the best mobile emulator there is, it fully emulates almost all NeoGeo MVS ROMs as well as CPS1&2 and Cave. Therefore you can play Metal Slug, Dodonpachi, Strider, Street Fighter Alpha etc (with sound!) all on your mobile!!!! Apparently its been nominated for Pocket PC software of the year for 2007. You can download it from the following link:

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=final+burn

The bloke who wrote it also has reworked Picodrive which fully emulates the Megadrive in full screen landscape with sound and has reworked PocketSNES so you can play SNES roms with sound. You can search and download them from the same forum. Let me know if you have any problems I'll give you a hand. They all work perfectly on my SPV M3100.

Cheers!

telboy, you registered just to steal my thunder and post exactly what I was going to :)

I second the modaco referral. There's loads of info on there. Look for the posts by Meneiyyyyyyssssssss (or some such craaazy name), he writes articles for a pocketpc blog which are massively long, involved, and heretical from an 8-bit fanboy perspective, but he does a *fantastic* job of comparing every emulator for a particular format, telling you what platforms they'll run on, and how to set them up properly.

Thanks to him I'm running:

* Final Burn, which is simply flabbergasting - I can't hack shooty action games on fiddly mobile keys unfortunately, but it simply amazes me to see my phone running DoDonPachi or KoF. Plus there are some great puzzle games that are totally playable - Puzzle Bobble anyone? Uo Poko? Pnickies? Hell yes -_-

* FuseSP - Speccy on the go. As mentioned, key mapping is pants, but it's still impressive and runs better than SpeccyDS IMO.

* PocketHobbit - pretty good C64 emulator. Has plenty of rough edges, but better input support than FuseSP.

This is all on a lowly Virgin lobster 700TV (which can be had for £24 to £43, fact fans - and has DAB radio and TV!)
