Ghostbusters (2016)

Like I said, if you think bridesmaids and the heat are crap then fair enough. But a lot of people like them, and Sony probably want to make a film that a lot of people will like. Bridesmaids was critically acclaimed (90% fresh on rotten tomatoes) and nominated for two Oscars. The heat was less critically successful (though not poorly received) but still made plenty of money.

Feig is well qualified to direct a blockbuster comedy. It really feels like you'd just rather it had men as the leads. And no it's not a gimmick, unless you think the original busters all being men was a gimmick too.

It should be the perfect storm for Sony. Feig is a very profitable director whose films skew the female demographic very well. Add into that the Ghostbusters brand = $$$$$$$

And it's really like every remake whose original is over 15 years old. The fans will either hate it from the off or give it chance. The rest of the market won't care it's a remake. The core demographic weren't even alive when the sequel was released.

Is the Ghostbusters brand that important or relevant these days? I know there are often murmurs about getting another film off the ground, but it's generally not much more than that (is it?) A reboot/remake is probably better for the long-term health of the brand I would think, than getting any of the original cast back.

I'd say it still needed to be in New York. I'd love it to be full of non-blatant nods to the original.

Imagine a sequence where they're hiring for the 4th ghostbuster, and all of the applicants are hopeless - one of them being a weird old slovenly Bill Murray. They'd take one look at him and go, are you fucking kidding?

And then he says "I'm getting too old for this shit" and everyone is like "here we go again!"

These days? Probably not. But a good remake/sequel/whatever could still capture the imagination of kids as much as it did us, probably. I had a freaking ghostbusters backpack and ghost sucker thing, and one of the toy toilets that turned into a monster.

I was the best Ghostbuster.

Sorry, but you're talking about a guy who's only major movie directing credits are Bridesmaids and The Heat, both films from genres normally focused on male leads (Frat type comedy and cop movies), changed them female focused films and are utter, utter crap when you get past the gimmick (yes, it's a gimmick) of it being female leads.

It's not a gimmick it's just still depressingly rare for a film to have female leads in certain genres.

Eh? In what way?

Ghostbusters forgotten and broken up. They reform the team when another threat hits the city. I see the modern reboot working the exact same way but with a "oh everyone is either dead or an OAP now, time to recruit some new ghostbusters". I just don't see how they are going to work in the 'all female' cast without some cheesy gimmick or something. It shouldn't matter that they are all women, just like the original didn't matter they were all guys, but Hollywood will DEFINITELY thing it does matter and point it out.

I also really liked Ghostbusters 2. TBH the actual story is probably better than Ghostbusters and Vigo was such a memorable baddie compared to Gozer. Mostly thanks to that terrifying painting. I also liked the slime guns and the role the slime played in the plot. The humour of course is about a hundred times better in the first though, shame.

I expect Dan Akyrod to be still working the book shop, but it's going out of business due to the internet. He finds a dusty tome that predicts another supernatural end of the world and he phone's his niece, Amy Poehler to assemble a new team of girl ghostbusters.
