"Your PlayStation 3 is coming!"

Whilst I have no interest in a PS3 myself it's obvious that some people do. Why should they be less excited about the PS3 than you were about the Wii?

Exactly. I enjoy every moment I spend on my 360 but I decided I didn't want a Wii as I am not interested in the kind games available on the system. I know the PS3 launch games are not going to rock the world but I'm going to enjoy playing 2 or 3 of them.

The machine is expensive but I can afford it so what's the problem? Am I not meant to enjoy the PS3 just because the majority of people on games forums don't want it?

Everyone wants it at some stage. Its just some people are still bitter over the price and jealous at the people who are getting it.

It isn't overpriced when you compare what you're getting with it compared to a 360. You get 40GB extra and a blu ray player.

If you add a HD-DVD player and 40GB to a 360 it would cost more then £500.

Dear God - Nooooo please don't start this shit again ...

I don't think "Jealous" is the right word. "Stunned", perhaps, that people are willing to pay that amount for a system which is still finding its legs, particularly as about a third of the console's price is going towards a next-gen DVD format which may or may not exist in five years' time.

If you added a HD-DVD player to the 360, it comes out at about £410. Are you seriously suggesting that an extra 40GB of storage costs £90 these days?

A 20GB HDD costs £70 for the 360. :D

I guess it's prohibitive entry point price, initial lack of real system selling earth shattering games, and it's lack of innovation in design. I'm not knocking anyone who's excited, it's good that people still get excited in such cynical times, but an email offering the "opportunity" to purchase a console/game bundle for the thick end of 5-600 quid seems a bit dubious.

but you'd only need to buy one if you got a poverty pack 360 in the first place...

so it'd cost the same as the premium anyway (give or take the wireless controller and component lead) :D

I was comparing both the PS3 and 360 packages. I was just saying the PS3 package is just better value for money compared to a 360 with a 60GB HDD(if you get two more 20GB HDD) and a HD DVD player.

Anyway like someone else said before lets not start this again and leave Steve to celebrate.

You're assuming that in order to get 60GB of space on the 360, you'd spend £140 on a pair of 20GB HDDs?

:D

This may explain the "poor value" you're reporting.

I wouldn't but you would need to if you want 60GB. Unless there is another way which I have never heard of?

With regards to console bundling, can someone clear this up:

I'm sure I remember reading that trading standards prohibit the sale of seperate items as a bundle unless those items are also offered as seperate items for sale.

They can sell things however they want.

They can't advertise it as "saving £10 off the separate price" unless they sell things seperately.

It's not a reasonable comparison. For example:

Xbox (at launch):

Console: £300

8GB save space (Inc.)

Built-in ethernet adaptor (Inc.)

4 controller ports (Inc.)

£300

PS2 (at Xbox launch):

Console: £200

8GB of memory cards: £30,000

Ethernet adaptor: £30

Multi-tap: £30

£30,260

So the PS2 represented really really shitty value for money. Do you see?

What a shit thread this has become. Can't we use the other moan-threads for this ever-repeating non-discussion and leave this one for the people who are actually excited about a new toy?

we're trying to let him down gently now, rather than in 52-odd days.

Actually thats not a reasonable comparison. You're comparing a memory cards to hard disk space and I'm comparing a HDD to a HDD.

Notice the difference?

You're comparing a 60GB HDD to a 20GB HDD, as though there's no point in having less than 60GB of storage space. Likewise I'm comparing the Xbox's HDD to my lorry-load of PS2 memory cards, as though there's no point in having less than 8GB of storage space. Do you see what I'm getting at?

You're the one posting OT derailing the thread.

Then again, it was pretty much doomed after the original poster pressed the submit button I suppose.

We should have a code, where we say we're posting about the 3DO when we're going to post about the PS3.
