Miscellaneous Classic Material From the Forum's Crates

The Perfect CD for a Hip-Hop Virgin

Recommend Me Some Classic... Hip-Hop! (focusing on Golden Era late 80s/early 90s classics)

Recommend Me Some Modern... Hip-Hop! (mid 90s til the modern era)

Common - Like Water For Chocolate... and 'conscious' hip-hop (recommending jazzier, smoother, socio-political stuff rather than gangsta/street LPs)

I have quite an obscure DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist album which is called "brainfreeze" its a mix of funk and soul 45's. No one ever seems to have heard of it when i tell them about it. Any of you own this?

What do people think of the Anticon Label sampler 1999-2004 ?

You are such a n00b, max! Brainfreeze has to be like one of the top 5 most legendary mixes ever. It's completely infamous. But, yeah, it is entirely awesome.

Really though, man. It's nuttily famous.

Ha, maybe i am but i have owned it for like years! Maybe it's the people i ask about it that are noobs :D

Have you heard of the anticon label thing?

Check "Product Placement" maximus, pretty much the follow up to "Brainfreeze".

Anticon stuff is definitely too studenty for my liking, although "Themselves" are pretty dope.

Yeah iv'e got to say i haven't really listened to the Anticon, it's just sitting in my collection.

I'll definitely check out "Product Placement" cheers for that.

Anticon have never done much for me either, and I am usually quite in to that "studenty" pish.

I'm obviously a n00b cause this infamous mixtape has missed me too! :D

Soul and Funk mix by Shadow and Cut Chemist sounds cool to me though. I'll have to look out for it.

Just some tracks I've been enjoying over the last month or so. Give us some feedback.

Zygote feat Bobba Fresh

- Bobba Fresh. Never heard of this guy before this track. Dope.

DJ Yoda feat Biz Markie - Haunted House

I'm liking this mainly due to the insanely stupidness of Biz!

DJ Yoda feat Celph Titled, Apathy, Kwest - Fresh Fly Fellas

This is a damn cool/comedy hiphop track, Celph Titled has such a wicked voice.......has he done any other good shit?

Sir Beans OBE feat. Chrome - Miles From Home

Title track from Sir Beans OBE EP. Brilliantly produced and Chrome is a quality MC.

I have a rake of Celph stuff kicking about on a disc somewhere, he is the fucking tits. Does rakes of stuff with Ap. I'll try to find it and up some bits. One of my particular favourite tracks has got be the one on J-Zone's Sick of Being Rich. Fucking aceness.

*edit* "FLA team" which samples the A-Team theme is mint too.

*double edit* Listened to the lot now, LOVING the Sir Beans OBE and Zygote tracks. You definitely need to get some more Celph Titled, good verse but nowhere near his best.

Sweet, you're a hero for upping one of them.

Can a few of you lot of the dj/producer persuasion have a quick listen to this and tell me if you think the clicks on the left are in time with the main drums. I have been shifting bpms by .01s for about an hour and it's sending me nuts.

Just having a listen to that El P track :D :D when's the album due?

Sounds ever so slightly out to me. ATCQ used that sample on Jam (Beats, Rhymes and Life).

Doh! Cheers for the responsage.

*late edit* been listening to that El-P track for about an hour on repeat. Fuck me, its quality. The sort of track that makes me wonder why I bother. So many layers to it.
