alex
PS3 ISO loader on the way !!!! After the cracking of the blu ray code, it appears that crackers may have succeeded to make an iso loader for the PS3 like the psp .... This news is definitely re-creating my huge interest for the ps3 . Check this out !! Hmm, it's Paradox and they're pretty respected on the scene... Jonny5
So after moaning about the price, now you can rip off games it's not so much of an issue? Nice.
Soma
This must be so heartening for any developers reading this forum. Remind me never to leave a pie cooling on my window ledge when alex is around.
Professor_k
now all we need is a hardware price cut and some decent software!
alex
Nope, you missed the point. I like backing up my games onto DVDR, just to be safe (my Guitar Hero disc is fucked because a mate kicked my PS2 ). Plus, loaders means a gateway to emulators and other PSP related hackery, which I'm all for. Doesn't look like the 360 will be doing that anytime soon, and MAME or other emus would seriously make me consider a PS3. I don't like pies anyway. Sng
Yeah right you suddenly like the PS3 cos you can backup games? And Linux on PS3 surely means emulators can be done no problem anyway? Whaaatever, pirate! You're meant to be on http://www.yarrhoo.co.uk

Whaaatever, pirate! You're meant to be on http://www.yarrhoo.co.uk Holy shit! I'm a ninja, not a pirate. Anyway, I believe the topic title said MIGHT get a PS3. Emulators would keep me occupied (I'd like a better way than doing it through linux, I have really looked into it so can't say for sure) until there are some decent games out, which I can BUY and BACKUP my discs so they don't get fucked when the inevitable flatmate kicks it, ok? I'm more interested in how it's done technically, not for yarring reasons. I've modded every console I've owned before, just for the hell of it. PS2 = imports, Xbox = MAME. PS3 = well TBH I probably won't end up spending £425 on something my 5 year old xbox can do perfectly fine.

Soma
Slight backtrack from initial statement! The "i have a load of originals, i just back them up, honest!" argument is slightly less than watertight. Oh well. Although i must admit the statement PS3 ISO loader on the way !!!! cartainly does sound like someone concerned about the wellbeing of his originals

Halo
Yeah right you suddenly like the PS3 cos you can backup games? And Linux on PS3 surely means emulators can be done no problem anyway! Isn't the PS3 Linux thing deliberately flawed, so it's useless for most projects (including emulators and stuff like XBMC)?
alex
Isn't the PS3 Linux thing deliberately flawed, so it's useless for most projects (including emulators and stuff like XBMC)? That was my suspicion. Straight up ports using the power of the PS3 FTW, definitely. None of that Linux shit.
Sng
Isn't the PS3 Linux thing deliberately flawed, so it's useless for most projects (including emulators and stuff like XBMC)? I don't think it has access to the graphics card but the Cell would be fine for stuff like MAME.
Gwynster
Hah, as if people will buy BD-Rs to burn on.

Dunno, a quick google says this - MAME - Software rendering is not very fast, especially at high resolutions. You need to explicitly enable hardware acceleration. Not sure if it's the same nowadays though, what with superquick processors.

layten
Yeah, you'd cane your monthly bandwidth downloading BDROM iso's I am sure the "scene" people would remove the 15-20Gb of padding from the disk first.
Dandy_Sephy
Hah, as if people will buy BD-Rs to burn on. At £10 for a BD blank, I'd rather buy the games (£30-£35 on import) then fuck about (plus a bd writer costs more then the ps3). Dual layer Verbatims for the 360 are £1.70 a pop and the burner about £35.
rubberducker
pirating on the ps3 = wah-fuckin-hey! is there a link to the this anywhere?
Dandy_Sephy
Today the GODS @ Paradox have released Tiger_Woods_PGA_Tour_07_USA_PS3-PARADOX which is the last remaining USA PS3 title that currently needed dumping. For those interested, the size is 6.85 GB (7,365,525,504 bytes) and the NFO File is available, and although PDX let us know they haven't had time to examine FW 1.5 yet their NFO Files states the following: "Stop nagging about loaders - it will come if and when its ready. Now sod off and let us beta test it !" So hopefully the BETA testing won't take long, however, there is a good chance nothing will be released publically until after the EUR PS3 release on March 23, 2007. That was a few days ago. Most rcent news i've seen. bit of an exageration to say its on the way
auntyclimax
I can't wait! Imagine having a PS3 on v1.5 fw for always, that would be bliss! Just like the good ol days of the PSP, they were so much fun! Sod all the media centre malarky that's going to actually make this maching worth the money in a few months, give me a bootable iso of Genji anyday. layten
Only 6.85Gb? The game must be rubbish, as it isn't using the AMAZING! power of Blu-Ray.
TheSlugFormerlyKnownAsNap
If you can run ISO's you can just upload them to the HD and play them from there.
Gwynster
Anyway, the only reason people spend so much on PCs is because you can get the games for free. It all levels out.
