I picked up PAIN, Shatter & Critter Crunch. Lucas loves playing PAIN. It's like the love child of Skate's Hall of Meat and Burnout's Crash Junctions. He finds it hilarious. Which is frustrating, as I haven't had time to play Shatter properly yet.

I find PAIN utterly fantastic too...so much so, that I pretty much downloaded most of the extra characters, modes and levels. The girlie loves it.

Also, I highly recommend High Velocity Bowling...probably the best bowling game I've played and highly addictive. Again, I ended up downloading a bunch of characters for that too.

I generally feel that if the game is worth it, i'm gonna reward the developers by shelling out some extra cash for their hard work. I did the same with Everybody's Golf too.

Wow...Now that I have yet another PS3 I'm definitely signing up in September. Whole season?! Done!

I just hope this console lasts longer than a year. Interesting how much lighter the new slim is than those issued previously. I knew about the internal revisions made a few months ago but I didn't expect it to be so obviously noticeable.

Yeah, I'm really beginning to think about jumping on the plus bandwagon myself. Quite a few of my PSN friends are starting to appear with the little golden plus next to their name. I think it's doing alright for Sony myself.

I still think it's short a feature. The inclusive content is pretty good but it needs a more everyday boon so that it comes across as less of a lucky-dip digital rental service. Cross-game chat would do it for a lot of people, and that kind of constant use functionality is certainly the direction to go in. They need something that reminds people why they signed up to Plus every time they turn their machine on rather than once a month, basically.

Personally I see Sony announcing an 'exclusive' Killzone 3 Beta at Gamescom, and that sort of thing will probably push a lot of the heavier PS3 users over the edge; I feel this generation has made it abundantly clear that people will happily pay for early access so long as they aren't directly handing over the cash for it.

Esh that seems a bit naughty, having demos that are only available to a certain tier of user.

Yeah, I wonder who came up with that idea. ;P

Though to be fair, at least the alternative sets them free after a week.

Plus should totally offer a free movie rental each month. Or even every other month. Getting people in the habit of using the Video Store (I've not been in it once) is surely something they wanna be doing.

I'm afraid to use the video store as the HD Videos are massive in size. Considering the speed of downloading demo's it could take days to download a 6GB file - no chance of renting when you feel like watching a particular movie.

Not sure what I make of Zen Pinball. Can be fun but the ball physics can seem waaay off at times.

Not just that but the tables are all essentially the same table but just reskinned. And objectives on the tables are all pretty plain/basic/hazy. Hard to really know what you should be doing. If anything at all.

You could read the objectives first. These aren't your simple Fantasies tables. That they are the same table reskinned is preposterous.

V12 can make you cry, while El Dorado is a nice warm-up. Never mind the magnet stuff on Tesla.

The only simple table is SFII and that's because it's an early Pinball FX port with a smaller size. Ninja Gaiden Sigma II is insane in comparison.

Yeah but on the actual table it's hard to see what is what. And they are all pretty much the same? Basic table, one or maybe two extra flippers on the left, generic layout up top? Like it's too cramped with stuff it's hard to distinguish between things.

Unless I'm missing something. Don't get me wrong, I'm finding it fun to play, just not finding it much like the pinball I once knew from youth.

The design is more geared to end '80s feature tables, akin to Funhouse, Whirlwind and some of the other elaborate Williams tables. The virtual nature of the tables also allows for some wacky stuff, like the little spider-droid on Mars, the cannon on Tesla and a fully animated Ryu on NG Gaiden Sigma 2.

Pinball Fantasies and co. are far more 'clean' and more like classic tables and in that respect it can be overwhelming. Changing the viewpoints by tapping Square during play can help (I use either View 1 static or 3 half-static) and of course you can hold Square to get a good look around the table through tilting the controller while paused. Combine that with a run through of the goals in your pause menu and you should have a basic grasp of what to do on each table.

Tesla for instance, requires you to open up the minor magnet table in the top-right, which you need to shoot into with the top-left flipper. Once done you have to knock down all the targets using magnetic attraction and get the ball into the machine to start an 'experiment' (ramp shooting, spinner activation, etc.). Completing all experiments is the key to high scores.

El Dorado is a very easy table to come to grips with, and the cleanest of the basic set. Focus on lifting the idol and shooting the ball into its mouth. It also has a little 'cheat': whenever you shoot the ball with the plunger go for full force and keep the left flipper pressed down. The ball will fly directly into the flipper's 'armpit' and net you a nice starting bonus. This can also be done with saved balls auto-launching into the field.

Yes! I would be a big user of the video store, but the prices are beyond ridiculous. I mean, they are seriously crazy. I think e.g. Toy Story 2 is 11.99 or something, for 2Ch SD! When you could get a blu-ray/DVD combi for less. Just like PSP games on PSN, they have the curious enforced blind spot of having to pretend they don't know that Amazon, Tesco et al. rarely sell movies for anywhere near RRP.
