A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

And theres "only' like 1gb being installed "per act". It's not 4gb for the first install, then another 4gb every act - it uses the same 4gb of space for the whole install, it just removes what it doesn't need to copy what it does.

If it had no installs you'd be moaning about 30second loads everytime it wants new data.

Huh? Going back to previous levels needs another install?! What, it just deletes your previous installs without asking you or something? A fuck up of biblical proportions.

Get used to it.

It's the future for the PS3. Game installs will be a constant occurrence, mark my words.

I called that shit in the DMC4 thread, and I got shot down. NOW look at the state of affairs.

If an install gets rid of Texture pop up and loooong loading times then i'm all for it!

I think having the OPTION of an install is a really great thing, if it sorts out that stuff ^

Why don't you buy a 360 Chase? LOL.

Yeah, Uncharted is full of texture pop up and screen tearing. It doesn't ruin the experience by any means though. Call of Duty 4 has a tiny install iirc, and works brilliantly; fast load times and no issues at all.

A console that felt like it had fast loading on most games was something like the Gamecube or modded xbox with big hard drive. The PS3 might be a few seconds faster than the 360 on a some multiformat games but its not so much a considerable difference that it makes the game + install feel like a smoother experience.

(Posted this in Ask the Forum, but to no replies...)

I'm after a bluetooth headset to use with the PS3. My preferred criteria:

- Looks swish / not too big

- Decent sound quality

- Can be charged conveniently using the PS3's USB ports

- Doesn't interfere with any other bluetooth stuff, melt my brain, etc

Any suggestions?

With Socom i think, whitch makes it october. Unless of course they release it before, but just bundle with socom later. It's rumoured to be $50 for the headset alone, but it will have a mute button (most headsets don't) and come with a usb charging cradle

Bitching about the subsequent installs between Acts in MGS4 is so stupid. They literally take just over a minute, which is about the same as the loading times between levels in Halo 1, 2 and 3. The only difference is the status bar says installing in MGS4 and loading in Halo.

MGS4 has some amazing tech behind it. Its lighting engine, facial and character animation etc are all at the very forefront of gaming. But it has weaknesses too. Data management is one. Each loaded areas are small compared to many other games. But having each Act install, and having to wait a couple of seconds for each area to load is worth it for the strength of the rest of the game. That doesn't mean that to have a game with the overall quality of MGS4 has to be at the expense of loading.

Installs and loading are absolutely not an inherent fault with the PS3. Like J&D showed PS2 games didn't have to be lumbered with long load times and entire games could be streamed from DVD, Uncharted came along early in the PS3's life to show what can be done. It's now up to other devs to have the skills to match and improve on Naughty Dog's engine. The only reason we haven't see installs abused on the 360 is because of the HDD-less Core, as games can't be designed from the off to rely on cached data on the hard drive.

If I were to answer you that, I'd get banned for it and the furore my banning would cause would destroy the forum. If I didn't get banned for it, then people would realise moderator threats don't need to be taken seriously and that knowledge would cause a riot of trolling and personal attacks, destroying the forum. Capish?

Quick question, I occasionally use the PS3's Internet Browser to read the forum but can't highlight spoiler text like I can on the Wii's Internet channel. Is there a way?

You have to quote their post, then you can see what they wrote. I've had to do it a lot in the Happening thread.

.::: Probably by using a mouse I'm afraid. :/ I don't know if X+Stick has the same selection effect as LMB+movement.

I have a DVD and a Blu-ray that skip pretty badly on my PS3 (US 60gb).

Games are fine and so are the majority of DVD's and Blu-rays. No scratches and both discs are new so dunno what the problem is?

so long as the problem doesn't "spread" to other discs I'd say it _is_ the medium no matter how pristine it looks

Then again... if your drive slowly starts displaying this behavior with other DVD's, audioCD's - your bluray drive's days are numbered

One thing you can do if its a DVD (dont try this with Blu Rays as I dont know if it works for them) is pour a load of washing up liquid into a bowl, drop the DVD in and then add boiling water from the kettle. Leave it to soak for about 15 minutes then wash it off under the cold water tap and dry it off with a lint free cloth (I use kitchen towels). This removes the extra plastic protective layer that is added at disc production and usually causes problems if theres a mark or slight scratch in it. Have fixed tons of game and DVDs this way.

Well, Buzz is a good laugh. Played five or so games of Sofa v.s Sofa last night and really enjoyed it.

Only problem is that it seems to repeat the same three rounds, Stop the Clock, All That Apply and High Rollers. Don't really understand why they've taken the others out.

Still, it'll be good for me and the missus for when it's too late for Singstar or Rock Band.

So you'd be scared about what an internet forum had to say?

Yeah i noticed that, it puts a kind of downer on it for me as the other modes are the better ones. Also no voice chat at all of camera support. :)

I've deleted my SSHD save file and started again and it all seems to be working.

Except that the trophies aren't registering now. I should have the seven minutes without dying, the 45 seconds without shooting and the collect 5 bonuses with a boost but none were acknowledged and don't show up in my trophies.

This is borked. :)

Ah, I thought it was 15 seconds without shooting, duh.
