I've just been on getting a PS3 set up for somebody having never touched one before and it's all done now apart from the fact that they'd like to use it with USB headphones rather than their crap PC speakers, I've got it set up so the mic works and the voice comes through but that's it. Is that all you can do with a headset on there or am I missing something to get all the other audio coming through as well?

Well this is what bothers me, a little. It's a lot of money for a game I might not ending up playing much. But then again I do think old school shooters like UT and Q3 offer something sufficiently different to warrant a purchase. Anyone else?
I got it at the US launch, played it once and forgot about it. And the single player is absolutely shit. It's multiplayer with bots, with a shit story threw in.
Well, I don't think anyone treats the one player modes of these games as anything other than practice.

I have my copy and I shall give you an opinion on it later, I will play more than one game before giving it though.

It doesn't look quite as nice as I hoped, not as sharp as Gears of War.

I remember someone else in thread mentioning the very same thing, but then they turned on post processing effects in the menu (or something like that) and it looked awesome. A bit odd they're not on by default though.

That was me.

I've sold on my US copy of PS3 Unreal Tournament 3. There's nothing really wrong with it but it's just a game that belongs to a different era.

I'll probably be getting UT3 tomorrow if I can find it cheap enough- Dixons/ Currys usually carry new PS3 games at £39.99, but anyone got it cheaper elsewhere?

I bought mine from Shopto.net for £32.99 but it is a Euro copy. I quite like it, despite the disappointing graphics, it is more Unreal Tournament. It does handle surprisingly well on Sixaxis, I hate the pad but it works well with this game. It is still a very fast paced FPS which has a place alongside COD4's more measured approach and Halo 3's balls out shooting action.

When you say disappointing, I was expecting it to be at least on par visually with Gears Of War, if not better considering it's a later version of the same engine. I was hoping it would give the PS3 a bit of a technical workout. Is it really ropey?

The PS3 can't output audio over USB. I don't think any console can.

UT3 does look well and yes, it's easily recognisible as a sister game of Gears of War. Personally I found the visuals in Ratchet and Clank & Uncharted more breathtaking. It does actually play well on the Sixaxis's rubbish sticks. Must be some finally tuned auto aim integration going on.
