A thread for PS3 owners Here

Accomplishments? Could they have used a clumsier word?

This is really off-topic, but in the latest Edge it mentions a few of the original Xbox's possible names and they actually make me grateful they went with "360" the second time around: TAC, or Total Action Centre; MARZ, the Microsoft Active Reality Zone; CPG, or Cyber Play Ground; and VERV, the Virtual Entertainment and Reality Venture.

Great to hear, quite surprised that the games will require a patch to support it though, thought all along it would just be in the firmware; replacing the current menu you get from pressing the PS button.

Older games will need to be patched so that they don't cut into the memory reserved for in-game XMB; past games are coded with the assumption that they have access to a certain amount of RAM, but future titles will have to make do with less.

The following is from a Private Message with someone to remain nameless. I am not gonna name names and throw this person under the bus.

"Do you know what PSedge tools are?

Basically, it's a development environment filled with code libraries that allow developers to have an easier time integrating their game code to work with the PS3.

Anyways, very exciting stuff happened on Monday (The one that just past). The PSedge dev kits, recieved an update. So whatever, we take a look, and the major addition, was that the TRC's were updated, and the new HOME libraries were brought in.

What does this mean? A TRC is a checklist of things a game must have for Sony to approve, in order for them to give the "Go-Ahead" on releasing the game on their console. This checklist has things like: Can't crash, Load times under 10 seconds, and things like that.

Two new ones were added: A game must be able to integrate into Home, a game must support "Accomplishments". Right there, two important things, the PS3 system for achievements is called "Accomplishments", and Home is coming out VERY VERY VERY Soon.

Then, we got a changelog, and in-game XMB is almost worked out. Every game that's coming out now, supports in-game XMB, every game that already came out, has to get patched. (Naturally, only first party games will get a patch, I doubt Ubisoft is going to patch Assassin's Creed).

So yeah, it boils down to, Sony got everything figured out. I don't know what's the hold up, but from a developers perspective, HOME is set up and completed, and In-Game XMB is on the verge of being completed and released."

Hmm, we didn't get this and we're working on several PS3 projects (None of which will support Home). Latest TRCs don't mention anything about Home either. Maybe the guy works for a Sony developer.

Oh, load times under 10 seconds is not on the TRCs either, never has been. I get the feeling this guy hasn't actually seen the TRCs, he has just heard it from someone.

Yeah I read that and though O RLY? Nobody has heard anything about that. Gotta love the internet though.

Lost Planet on the PS3 needs a 5 gig 20 min install too.

This is a bit of a shitty precedent.

Everybody's Golfs a pretty hefty install as well. Come to think of it so is Bladestorm and that looks like a bloody PS2 game.
Heavenly Sword anyone? ^_^

5 - 5 - 5 - 2 - future games = 40gb PS3 LOL

This generation sucks, why the heck does Everbody's Golf need an install. Except the Wii of course.

Thinking about it now it all seems like bollocks. There wasn't an update to the TRCs last Monday, there's no Home libraries being widely distributed (At least we haven't got them, and we're working on several PS3 titles) and the guy doesn't seem to actually understand about TRCs. I call bullshit.

Surely that's -7gb? LOL.

It's space being taken away from the 40gb LOL. Are slightly less loading times really worth it? Console games becoming more like PC games is not a good thing. I can understand why a few games would require it due to not wanting to break the illusion and have no loading at all. Surely something like Everybody's Golf should have an optional install though.

Sorry for missing the COD4 invites all the time last night. Whenever I tried to join it said "connection error" or something.

I'm going to buy a PSN game today, just for the fun of it. I've got my eye on Pixeljunk Monsters. What do you think I should get?

edit. Oh Yeah, what is our clan name? I've unlocked the thingy now.
