A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

Those psm triggers are indeed nice but I wish I hadnt opened the mag... I thought it might be horrible (all single format mags are these days I think...) but oh my word it was terrible

the "highlight" for me was the opinionated piece where the sad excuse for a journo said that ps3 via rgb scart into a CRT gave a better playing experience for Uncharted than HDMI on a HDTV!!!

his argument was that graphics are not upto the resolution and it looks jagged etc whereas rgb and crt meant it got naturally anti-aliased.

I had to read it three times to make sure he was so utterly wrong.

That did make me chuckle. Those crazy guys!

On another note, some of the themes on the disc that came with it are really good, particularly the Katamari one. And the Rock Band one. Ooh, and the LocoRoco one. So there you go.

Can the PS3 play AVI yet? I'm asking because I was surprised to learn the other day that it can now play WMV. :(

For ages. A lot of people have trouble with it not playing certain files. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far. So any modern TV encodes will be fine.

So my housemate went crazy at the weekend and bought a PS3 (and Rock Band on import). We need game recommendations - I've already suggested he get Uncharted.

It came with Ridge Racer 7 (which is pretty good) and Resistance (which is mediocre at best after stuff like CoD4). Anything else we should be aware of out there in the PS3 scene?

I bought Everyday Shooter last night, thinking it might be right up my street (I love Robotron and Mizuguchi's music / gameplay stuff) - and I think it's crap. The graphics aren't great, the music is cheesy, the music / gameplay interaction isn't very interesting, and the gameplay is boring. It's the kind of thing I download as a free PC indie game, play for a few minutes and then delete, and having paid a fiver for it - more than I have for something decent like Pixeljunk Monsters - I feel rather ripped off.

Bah.

Pretty much what I think about it ^_^ I really bought into the hype. The lack of demos for PSN games is annoying and Everyday Shooter has cemented the idea that I won't buy another game unless there's a demo.

We both have the Orange Box on PC and my housemate has it on 360 too. So no thanks. :)

Ratchet and Clank is a good suggestion there, thanks. I've heard very good things about it.

It's great as long as you switch control modes to make it play like MDK rather than the default Mario style setting.

The following is from a Private Message with someone to remain nameless. I am not gonna name names and throw this person under the bus.

"Do you know what PSedge tools are?

Basically, it's a development environment filled with code libraries that allow developers to have an easier time integrating their game code to work with the PS3.

Anyways, very exciting stuff happened on Monday (The one that just past). The PSedge dev kits, recieved an update. So whatever, we take a look, and the major addition, was that the TRC's were updated, and the new HOME libraries were brought in.

What does this mean? A TRC is a checklist of things a game must have for Sony to approve, in order for them to give the "Go-Ahead" on releasing the game on their console. This checklist has things like: Can't crash, Load times under 10 seconds, and things like that.

Two new ones were added: A game must be able to integrate into Home, a game must support "Accomplishments". Right there, two important things, the PS3 system for achievements is called "Accomplishments", and Home is coming out VERY VERY VERY Soon.

Then, we got a changelog, and in-game XMB is almost worked out. Every game that's coming out now, supports in-game XMB, every game that already came out, has to get patched. (Naturally, only first party games will get a patch, I doubt Ubisoft is going to patch Assassin's Creed).

So yeah, it boils down to, Sony got everything figured out. I don't know what's the hold up, but from a developers perspective, HOME is set up and completed, and In-Game XMB is on the verge of being completed and released."

My money is still on the Home beta/in-game XMB this Wednesday! But I'm an eternal optimist.
