Playing with mates is frustrating but jumping in a random game is pain-free. And I don't think there's anything like it on any other console. Craaaazy good fun.

Hopefully the whole playing with mates thing will be better with Firmware 3.0!

Halo 3.

I don't really like coming in here and dissing the PS3 as it has certainly provided me with some quality gaming experiences since I got one, but I imagine jumping into random games is no harder on the 360 than the PS3 and when you want to play with friends the 360 wins hands down.

For me, the PS3 really is a solo experience at the moment, but yeah, in game XMB would go a long way toward turning that situation round.

You're right: Take away the guns, soldiers and vehicles of war and they're nothing alike.

That's a little facetious of me. Warhawk is played in the third person throughout, whereas Halo only switches to 3rd person when you’re in a vehicle. Or carrying a big fuck off gun.

But enough already! Each console is good at different things and I'm happy to enjoy the relative strengths of both.

Going back to UT3, does is not look good by default, talking about fiddling with the settings and stuff?

I'm really, really, looking forward to playing Uncharted.

I have a 1080p 37" Sharp Aquos tv and by default settings UT3 on PS3 looked graphically really, really odd. There is a setting which I changed to 'vivid' and the graphics now look stunning.

Uncharted is one of the reasons I bought PS3 no.2 and ultimately I loved the first half but for several reasons it went very wrong in the latter stages. The template was there but Naughty Dog messed with their own good ideas and when finishing the game last night I was just glad it was all over despite the short playing time.

To elaborate somewhat, I think Half-Life 2 is an excellent world with great personality, but as a game I think it's too long. I'd much prefer a shorter version with everything shortened a little, especially the hovercraft sections. And take out all the stupid physics puzzles, please. They're not hard, don't require much in the way of thought and just slow things down. I definitely think Half-Life 2 would be a far better game with about a third of it cut out. It's a slog, but it's definitely worth seeing it through for the good bits.

Resistance, however, I loved all the way through, with the possible exception of those explosive things that pop up out of the ground. It's got a great selection of weapons and set pieces, it's paced much, much better than Half-Life 2 and somehow - I'm really not sure how - the game's controls feel perfect, despite having to use Sony's rubbish pad.

HL2 is a masterpiece; we'll still be discussing it in years to come (in fact we are, the game was released in 2004) Resistance was a generic bland wannabe of an FPS. If Resistance wasn't a PS3 exclusive no one would have bought it.

What would everyone rate their top game for the system?

Motorstorm is exceptionally good and gets my vote.

Uncharted came close to being a must have but if you can overlook my issues with the game then you might just love it. Warhawk is far better than the vast majority of online shooters available on the 360.

I've yet to play Ratchet and Clank (beyond the demo) and Heavenly Sword. I did get R&C today though.

Nope, and I explained my reasoning in another post.

Half-Life 2 is a world, a story, a tech demo and a journey, but Resistance is all game.

Is it just me or is the USB charging cable for the Sixaxis really, really short?

As I got my second-hand I was suspicious GAME had put some generic shit cable in the box, but I think it's the original one that Sony supply.

Also I think the pad I got has seen some abuse as the USB port on the back is really wobbly, when the cable is in it moves from side to side. Or are all the pads like this?

Thought it might be, it works though so that's the main thing, and I'll be replacing it with a Dualshock 3 when Sony pull their finger out of their arse and get them over here*

*yeah I know they are on eBay but they are silly money right now
