A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Said it once, I've said it a thousand times, I've never understood peoples problems with the Dualshocks sticks.

Either I'm some kind of aiming superman or my brain is conveniently broken in the same place as the pads designers.

My problem with them is that they could be so much better by making a simple alteration to their rubber tops. A concave design, like that of the 360's sticks, allows me more control over movements as I can push them from the centre of the grip as opposed to using the edge, if you see what I mean. Sony's analogues have always been a bit loose for my liking, too.

The current design certainly isn't unusable, but the feeling that I'm 'putting up' with their foibles is always in the back of my mind; excellent controls don't draw attention to themselves.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I reckon their placement, ie side by side and quite close, doesn't help. The offset nature of the Cube and Xbox controller sticks does a certain something, IMO.

PSM3 apparently

Yeah, spot on. They will be on PSM3 issue 98 – due for release on 14th February. This is plastered all over gaming forums so this is gonna sell out fast. Quite lucky as I subscribe so I should not miss out. Might buy another copy though so I have the triggers for when I get a second controller.

Pic attached for anyone who has not seen these.

I've only just done the first level, am loving it though. Very desktop tower defence. If you're having trouble, hmm... plan ahead, keep an eye on what's coming up and plan accordingly. Upgrade towers asap. Actually I'm gonna go do the second level now. If I do it first time you're banned.

2nd level, just build close together, in the centre facing west initially (where they turn north). Build close together to avoid the distance you need to travel to get coins.

Also, you need to mix between the cannons (for the slower ones), and the arrows (for the spiders). You do need arrows, as they mince the spiders. You also need 2 - 3 tops of the anti aircraft.

More generally, it's the only time you should be dancing is if there's no coins or gems to collect, and powering up a tower only takes it to the start of the next level, so you get the most bang for your buck (gem) by powering up a tower that's only at the start of its level, if you catch my drift. Powering up an almost ready to level tower with a gem is a waste.

EDIT, and Moosey, you need to lay off the heavy metal I think. Also, what's your PSN id?

That's great news, I wanted to get some the first time they were available but couldn't find the magazine anywhere.

I'm gonna' be hunting everywhere for them come 14th of Feb.

It's enabled on my router. Maybe it's been disabled on the others? If that makes a difference.

If you try it at someone elses what?

Remember, you need to pair the PSP to each PS3 you're going to use Remote Play on.

At someone elses house. Through their router to connect to my PS3, using my PSP. It should work fine.

We've been happily playing Devil May Cry 4 for a wee while now (check out our review and awesome series retrospective) and whilst doing so we noticed something a little strange about the game's accomplishment system. It's not the first multiplatform game to include the Xbox 360 achievements inside the PS3 version, by any means, though it is the first to allow players to check out their online accomplishment rankings as well as check out exactly which individual accomplishment goals their friends have achieved.

The interesting thing is that the "Accomplishment Unlocked" screen is a part of the PS3 Operating System, similar to the network connection screen, rather than an in game messsage. What does this mean? Well it could mean that DMC4 is the first game to include specific data which Home will later be able to turn into trophies (when it's finally released). It could potentially indicate other exciting things, but we'll leave the rampant speculation to those who do it best: you, the commenters.

Hmm, are you able to use the internet browser on the PSP OK whilst connected to your friends router?

Hmm not sure then, maybe have a look at those manual remote start settings on the PS3?

In other news:

PS3 eboot.bin fully decrypted via memory dump

We hinted on this in previous PS3 Dev postings, but now it deserves a post of its own. We have successfully obtained the decrypted ELF file from an encrypted SELF that we ran, then dumped using the PlayStation 3.

As you can see in the image below, there is an ELF file, totally decrypted from the retail game disc! This removes BOTH the disc layer of encryption on the EBOOT.BIN, as well as the file layer of encryption.

In other recent PS3 Dev news, we have managed to successfully downgrade a PlayStation 3 without utilizing a previous flash dump backup of the console. Normally to downgrade your PS3 you first need a copy of the original firmware (made with Infectus). However our method does not need any flash backup, as it uses the PS3's updates to downgrade for us.

Keep in mind it's still a work in progress, but expect additional details on this project as they become available. Look for more information coming this week!

Yeah, I can see it now. Wife/girlfriend indoors on Valentine's Day while rllmukers everywhere are out shopping in the evening searching for a copy of the mag! Forget the romantic evening, this is your priority for 14 Feb!

Don't understand the love for PixelJunk Monsters.

It's just a very simple tower defence game, there are dozens of these out on the web and most have more options, things to do etc. (albeit with worse graphics) Meh... Glad I got the demo off the Jap store rather than buying it.

When you're married, well married for a long time, then you'll realise. PS3 triggers would definitely be a priority.

Right. Pixeljunk Monsters. How the fuck are you supposed to predict how many there's going to be in a fucking wave?! I'm only on level fucking 3 an all! The first time I clustered my towers too close together and too many got through, so I spread them out and all was well untill the last 3 waves, where 2 of the big rock ogre thingies got through, then the spiders wiped out all but 2 of my men, then FUCKING THEN the fucking boss fucking stomped his way around the fucking map with like 1% energy or some shit AND WOULD NOT FUCKING DIE!! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!
