A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

As the number of 1080p games are rather thin on the ground, unless you are going to use your PS3 for Blu Ray films, I doubt you will be missing out on much. The ones I can think of from the top of my head are GT HD (downloadable one track demo) Tekken 5 Online, VT3, Lego Star Wars Complete Saga.

I have not had any games upscaled to 1080p which are native 720p, picture looks fine, (but then my tv "only accepts a 1080p signal" and is not a "true HD" one... )

I should think the picture quality will be down to the tv you end up choosing

There's 26 native 1080p PS3 games available.

<snip>

I have a 37" Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD tv and it just simply switches resolution depending on the PS3 game. The XMB launches in 1080p and switches automatically to 720p when I stick Uncharted in for example.

Thanks guys, for some reason I thought I read on here (Probably on this thread) that there's a problem with PS3 games which don't support 1080p, namely that it simply doesn't upscale them so they don't look as good as they should (Like when you don't use an upscaling DVD player for example). I tried reading back through this thread but couldn't find it, so maybe I made it up in my mind.

So just to clarify, there's no reason I should worry about PS3 games on a 1080p set?

Nope. I have no issues at all with PS3 games via HDMI on my 1080p set. My 360 is connected to the same tv via VGA and it looks really poor in comparison to the PS3. I need a 360 with HDMI output basically.

The problem centred around the fact that most CRT HD screens accept 1080i or 480p (i.e. they do not support a 720p signal). This meant that all the PS3 games that are only 720p max would display on these screens at 480p(i). It was quite a big issue as a lot of sets sold in the States were like this.

You would be fine as all HD Ready sets sold in Europe will accept a 720p signal and upscale it themselves to their native resolution so you'll still have a nice image.

Notes

- All titles have been checked as being 1080p compatible firsthand by the back of the game box and/or by owning/playing the game at 1080p resolution. Unlike what is happening on the Xbox 360 game boxes, Sony doesn’t advertise 1080p on the back of game boxes unless it is a truly native 1080p title.

Lies! Sony advertise that WarHawk is 1080i on the back of the box and it isn't.

It plays ok. The menu system is good enough when you get used to what button does what. The only problem you get is that it's quite hard to position stuff where you want it using a d-pad. But I think that's just a case of getting used to it. It looks really good on a PSP.

Also, I only ever played the PC version which was just like a sandbox game. This seems to have a mission structure to it. Which might be a good thing.

Just got Theme Hospital. I don't remember that intro?! Some crazy doctor put a chainsaw to some guy, hit an eject button and he fell down a trapdoor. Weeeird.

I'll let you know how it plays in a bit.

I remember the intro, it was awesome.

Is theme hospital the PS1 version? Wouldnt it be better on the PC

It's the PS1 version, yeah. Better on a PC but I wanted it mainly for the PSP. I just tried a mouse with it but it didn't work. It works in the XMB which is nice, makes it feel all futuriiiistic.

EDIT: Ooo even the scroll wheel works.
