A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

Well, cheers anyway. It started working around 11pm again, two nights in a row, so I'm wondering if my ISP (Pipex) has something to do with it... I tried UNPN off and on on the router, though the PS3 said it was off both times, and even when I turned off the firewall, added the PS3 to the DMZ and made sure all the PS3 ports were forwarded, it still told me the NAT type was 3. So perhaps a new router is in order... it has been a bit of a sod with Live in the past, e.g. joining some games, but everything else I throw at it - web surfing, home networking, streaming and torrents - works perfectly. It's vexing. I've never been able to get it to work with static IPs, and since you can't put a machine in the DMZ based on its MAC address it's a bit of a long-winded process.

But like I say, from 11pm it worked fine, and not as a result of changes to the config, just of its own accord. Pipex do seem to choke torrent traffic as they always pick up speed overnight, but could they be doing something to scupper the PSN as well?

I do know this: NAT Type 3 can give you issues. But I don't know how to fix it.

Anybody aware of any cheap ps3 deals at the moment? got a birthday / christmas present owed to me so I'm looking to join the ps3 owners club.

Gameplay are doing the new bundle deal for £330 (would probably get uncharted and singstar), buying from a shop though would be preferable as I'm an impatient bastard and need it asap :P

Also is there any way of hooking a ps3 up to my monitor? (dvi and vga inputs)

If I hook it up to my HDTV I'll never get a chance to play it.

A PS3 can be hooked up to a monitor via VGA using a transcoder box. I did this with my first PS3.

I'm tempted to get PS3 no.2 today (I sold on my first one). The 360 2008 release list of endless soldier shooter type games fills me full of apathy.

how much would I be looking at for a transcoder box though?

Been having a look around and the best option seems to be some kind of HDMI->DVI converter. My monitor supports HDCP so should be no problems playing movies and it means I don't need an extra cable when I do plug it into the HDTV.

If the weather wasn't so shit I'ld go for a drive on my lunch break and see what kind of prices the bundle is being sold for.

I got Virtua Fighter 5 stick for XBOX 360 and Soul Calibur 2 Stick for PS2. What the best option to use to connect to PS3 ? Buy a USB to PS2 cable or plug in vf5 stick.

There's an adapter in HMV that will allow your PS2 stick to work on the PS3 I've used it for my old PS1 Namco arcade stick and it's fine.

Upwards of £100.

Woolworths own brand HDMI-DVI cable, £10.

Gamestation : offers exactly as on website link

They've essentially got the new "official" bundle for £340 but with Spiderman 3 thrown in and Singstar taken out of the game list.

Game : £350 for the official bundle

£310 for 1 game (from a choice, only worthwhile was Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Assassins Creed)

£330 for 2 games (same choice as above)

I've got bored of phoning people already, they don't seem to like it when I ask them to read out the games available in the bundle.

Why can't I be sensible and just order it from gameplay?! instead I just know I'm going to end up going to town later with the intention of coming home with a PS3 regardless.

Hey, quick question about Warhawk. Can it be played Lone Wolf style just treating everyone like NPCs or does actual cooperation take place? Are there objectives and stuff or is it CTF and Deathmatch?

I tend to do my own thing and it works fine. Teamwork can obviously give one side a huge advantage, but I find it's easy to make a difference on your own: you could capture a zone so your allies can spawn there/to push the enemy back, take out bothersome players on turrets, give some air defence, mine up enemy vehicles and bases, etcetera.

As for objectives, only in the sense of the self-enforced ones I just mentioned. The game modes are CTF, T/DM, and Zones, which is basically a Domination-alike where you earn points for however many zones you have in your control.

The Game website has a £329.99 pack available with Uncharted and Warhawk in it or just Uncharted + console for £309.99. I dunno if they are in store packs though. Tempting although I'm not sure about Warhawk.

*Looks at credit card longingly*

I mostly play Zones, and I mostly play alone - spawning, checking the map for a Zone the enemy are about to capture, or one that looks poorly defended, then heading there for some well-targetted action - and I find that doing that I have a good game, play for the team, get myself a good score and help the team to victory quite effectively.

I also find doing that means that my teammates who do arrive also tend to be a bit more tactically-minded, rather than the teamkilling tank retards you find in the busy centre areas.

What tends to be the cause of white dots sparkling around the screen with the PS3? I'm hoping it's jus the cable (it goes if I fiddle with the cable) but could it be something related to it overheating? Because if it's on ages the fan goes mental.

What's your HDMI cable like? i believe that sparkles are a symptom of low quality cables. Does it happen from start-up or only after a while?

I normally play it Lone-Wolf style. The lack of speech sort of dictates it really.

It tends to happen after a while but fixes itself if you wobble the cable a bit. The cable came bundled with my PS3 so I imagine it's the cheapest of the cheap. Maybe I should try another.

As for Warhawk, buy it! It's only £20 and great to have as a game on your PS3 so you don't need to get the disc out to play it.

Surely it has the ability to have speech in it seeing as it comes bundled with a headset. I still haven't played this yet even though my copy is sat on the shelf.

Must have a go tonight.
