A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

I've no idea what else I can try. What else can I try? Apart from the 360.

No idea. The only thing I can suggest you check that you've not mentioned is what happens when you run the network connection test on the PS3. Which tests work and fail? Is uPNP on? What NAT type?

.::: The best thing about the US PS1 downloads is that they are stretched in terms of resolution, so when you set it full screen it looks completely normal to my PAL eyes. ;) Spent about an hour designing new Wild ARMs icons last night... Marvellous!

Just a word of warning for those wanting to use their games on PSP as well: only one certificate/profile can be linked to any one PSP at one time. So if you have PAL games on a PSP from a PAL profile, you can't pick and mix them with games from your US profile and vice versa. You can overwrite certificates though, but basically a PSP is linked to any one profile for PS1 games.

I didn't turn on my PS3 last night - or anything else for that matter - for fear of blowing it up. So it looks like I'll next turn it on on Sunday - once I've moved flat.

It *should* be fine by then.

My PSP went through the washing machine and its fine (after a weeks drying time). So hopefully your PS3 will be the same.

Well, cheers anyway. It started working around 11pm again, two nights in a row, so I'm wondering if my ISP (Pipex) has something to do with it... I tried UNPN off and on on the router, though the PS3 said it was off both times, and even when I turned off the firewall, added the PS3 to the DMZ and made sure all the PS3 ports were forwarded, it still told me the NAT type was 3. So perhaps a new router is in order... it has been a bit of a sod with Live in the past, e.g. joining some games, but everything else I throw at it - web surfing, home networking, streaming and torrents - works perfectly. It's vexing. I've never been able to get it to work with static IPs, and since you can't put a machine in the DMZ based on its MAC address it's a bit of a long-winded process.

But like I say, from 11pm it worked fine, and not as a result of changes to the config, just of its own accord. Pipex do seem to choke torrent traffic as they always pick up speed overnight, but could they be doing something to scupper the PSN as well?

Pipex were bought by Tiscali weren't they? They were complaints that PSN was unusable for Tiscali users when the PS3 launched.

Can someone do me a fave?

For some reason i've been playing Driver (1st PS1 game) on my PS3 and i cant get it to save a game. Bloody annoying considering it took me an age to clear the garage level. It just hangs on the save screen.

Can someone have a quick go if they have a copy to see if it does the same?

cheers in advance

Holy shit, I never heard of Echochrome before, but I just watched the trailer on youtube and it looks amazing. ;)

.::: If the original Flash-app was any indication, it's not though. Still hoping for it to be much better when it is released.

We have been informed that a job listing has been recently added to the Sony Computer Entertainment International careers website. The listing calls for a "PlayStation 3 compatibility feature engineer" with a job role that would require the applicant to "implement and improve an emulator on the PlayStation 3 and next gen systems. Target systems:PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP".

It is our responsibility to point out that this could simply be a Research & Development position for internal testing or for improving compatibility in older PS3s, to improve the number of titles which work with emulated backwards compatibility. With those more sensible ideas out of the way, we can move onto the fun speculation. The juiciest possibility being full backwards compatibility on 40GB PS3s. Not only that, but the inclusion of the PSP in the list of systems lends us to suspect that PSP emulation on the PS3 could be a possibility at some point.

We don't want to get your hopes up and even if our wild speculation is correct, we won't be seeing any of this stuff for a while. There's no telling how long until someone gets the job. The SCEI careers page is still listing a position for a Gran Turismo developer and, until recently, a game engine designer for Afrika. No wonder Sony takes so long to do anything!
