A thread for PS3 owners Here

So does that mean if you have a 250gb external hdd you can just have it FAT32 and it'll detect it as 250mb? So the only drawback is max filesize of 4gb?

What do you reckon the chances are of NTFS working on PS3. Apparently they DID before firmware 1.6 but I dunno how true that is.

Major bummer: OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast doesn't seem to run pretty much at all on the PS3 :( It keeps freezing when the game tries to load the car models, which even keeps me from passing the Car Selection screen. Damn shame, as it is playable in 480p, but which I can't on my old PS2 with its crappy composite cables.

My copy is a used one though, and it does have some scratches. Though it runs properly on the PS2, that may be the problem for the PS3? Or am I not the only one with this problem?

.::: A PAL PS2 copy with 480p? That's... new.

Bollocks:

Might as well ad a shot of The Screen of Doom. It can stay like that for hours, and happens only on the PS3 (even when I select 50Hz of 60 Hz, by the way):

2K Boston, the team behind the wildly success Bioshock, is looking for a number of PS3 programmers. "PS3 and production experience using Python or Ruby will be highly regarded" for the Tools Programmer position. "Experience with PS3 development is highly desirable." for the Senior Console Programmer position. "PlayStation3 experience highly desirable" for the Programmer position.

Something has us thinking that the 2K Boston team is making a PS3 game. Just call it a hunch. Of course, this is in stark contrast to previous rumors that they were avoiding PS3 altogether. Could the sequel to Bioshock be coming to PS3? Considering 2K's acquisition of the team, we say it's very likely.

If they're looking for news on the BioShock prequel/sequel coming to PS3 they should be looking at job postings for 2K Marin not 2K Boston. If every other site that isn't called ps3fanboy is to be believed anyway. This will be for the next game. Still I'd be massively surprised if the BioShock franchise didn't come over now the UE3 issues seem sorted.

It's a good site! It's basically Joystiq's PS3 specific site.

There's also nintendowiifanboy.com, xbox360fanboy.com, pspfanboy.com, etc.

They aren't spectacular sites but they're kinda fun. OMG PLANT.

Oh and I didn't think 2K Marin was confirmed to be working on Bioshock 2? I thought it would be a new IP from them.

The new 40GB machines are different there was a thread in ATF not so long back where someone blew thier 40GB import machine!

Are you sure he didn't use a stepdown and blew it?

From NTSC -

Okay, I've bought a PS3, what sort of stepdown transformer do I need?

Despite a wealth of information existing on this particular subject, it transpired that you don't actually need one! A standard PC/Kettle lead (5 amp) will do the trick, since the PS3 has a 110v-240v power supply built in.

We have confirmation from SCEA now that the power supply inside the Playstation 3 is, in fact, universal. The power supply supports 100 to 240 volts at 50 to 60 Hertz, which is useable in all modern power grids -- including Europe. Although European markers require a different physical plug for their infrastructure, there is no need to replace the power supply..

My PS3 is waiting for me at home, but i don't have the necessary 5 amp kettle lead. Would it be safe to just plug the u.s power lead into my 300w step down convertor in the meantime?
Careful if it smells like burning though mate - I was using a stepdown at first, which exploded in a great big mess of smoke.

Pretty sure all those quotes relate to the old model which IS 110/240v compatable. The 40GB machines are advertised on playasia as being 110v where as the older machines were advertised with both ratings...

I don't have access to a 40GB import machine to check the lable and see if it says 110/240v. I'd certainly advise that if you're importing a 40GB machine do a search and see if you can find conclusive proof either way.

I'd still get step down just in case though.

Just got my US 40GB PS3 this morning. The console states it's 120V! I know some of the other models stated that as well but turned out to be multivoltage but the only thing that makes we think it isn't is the fact the power consumption is now280WATTS according to the manual and not 380 as detailed on the Sony website. Not sure what to do. Might just get a step-down to be on the safe side. Anyone else got theirs yet and tried it with a kettle lead?

CONFIRMED WORKING!

JAPANESE MODEL CECHH00 CW 40Gb HAS A UNIVERSAL PSU.

Obviously it's NTSC output, but it's running in my front room now. I just have to work out how to use it as all the docs are in Japanese.

Appears I was wrong AVforums have all the answers if you want to check for yourself.

Cheers

Having had a PS3 for about a month now I would say that a full BC 40Gig model at £249.99 would be perfect and certainly a viable alternative to the 360. For someone who isn't a hardcore gamer* there is enough there to keep you entertained games wise whilst also giving you Blu-ray playback for films you can rent and watch easily from places like Blockbusters and the internet browsing which, with a keyboard and mouse is just as good as its PC counterpart, is handy, particularly if you have a Blutooth printer.

I was also thinking that a version of iTunes for the PS3 would be really good, though obviously Sony isn't going to go for that. For me it would be a hell of a lot more practal at least.

*By hardcore I mean people who have a lot of time to dedicate to gaming.
