A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

I've got an order for the PS Eye at play.com.

I'm wondering, is it actually worth getting right now? I'm not interested in Eye of Judgement. Is Eye Create any good? How about the downloadable games?

I got EoJ at the weekend, half-price in Game. I only really wanted the camera, but nobody had that on its own.

Anyway, I've been pleasantly surprised by EoJ and I've ordered some more cards (all half price on Play). In theory it could all be done without the camera and with virtual cards, but having to handle the cards and use the mat does add something to the experience. It's good fun and pretty deep without being complicated. I haven't tried it online, but fighting the CPU is enjoyable.

I downloaded Eye Create, the two Mesmerise packages and Tori-Emaki, the last three as they were all £1.99. Tori-Emaki is very nice to look at, but it's unashamedly more of a toy than a game. Mesmerise is the same, but I found Tori-Emaki to be more interesting. Mesmerise would make a great music visualiser for the PS3, but I don't think that's an option.

Eye Create was what I was really interested in, and it's very good at what it does. The stop-motion mode works well and has onion skinning and the time lapse is fine (not much that can go wrong there). Editing can be a little fiddly but you soon get used to it. The editing options are minimal, but I think Eye Create is all about messing around with stuff like stop-motion and reversed clips than putting together narrative movies.

The only thing I'm not keen on is the design of the camera itself. The USB cable is quite heavy and is always dislodging the camera and pulling it around. I wish the stand that comes with EoJ was a bit more flexible and could work as a basic tripod, but even the stand can be moved about by the USB lead - it needs anchoring with a weight on the base.

But yeah, for £35 the camera, EoJ and Eye Create was well worth it in my opinion. I'll get loads of use out of the stop-motion mode and I'm enjoying EoJ a lot.

But does it feel like you're playing that chess battle type game you briefly see being played in the original Star Wars film?

Absolutely, 100% guaranteed. It was just like that! Then later I got a lift home and it was just like being in the Death Star trench. And I had lunch with a wookie.

I thought people were suggesting it's half price in store. I know the price online, but at my local store it was still £69.99 when I checked on friday.

Ever since my original copy of Guitar Hero got lost in the post I don't trust GAME when it comes to posting larger items.

I bought it for £40 in store last week.It could be they just haven't changed the price on the display box, Ask the people behind the counter to check next time you're passing (Of course maybe you already have done this.) I think it was last Wednesday or thursday i bought it.

I've found a new video encoder for MKV HD rips, it's called MKV2VOB and obviously, it converts to VOB instead of MP4.

The result? Doesn't split the movie into seperate files and you get to keep the AC3 or DTS sound.

Not bad if you ask me although one of the movies I converted didn't fast-forward.

Download

I have created a program which will remux mkv with x264 video and AC3 audio to a vob file which is playable on the sony ps3.

No transcoding/recompression is done, the streams are simply split and mux into the vob.

Previously there was no way to get AC3 audio on the ps3, only AAC stereo.

1. Extract to a directory (dont just run it from within winrar) and run mkv2vob.exe

2. Select the MKV file

3. Select where to save the VOB.

4. Several windows will open/close during the process, do not interrupt it or click anything in these windows.

5. Playback the vob file through tversity with transcoding set to Never, i havent tested if it plays any other way.

Yep, the in-store sale price is £40 and the online sale price is £35

Sony Boss Talks PlayStation Network Expansion

The PS3's start? Fairly close to disastrous. Things are slowly improving, though, and Sony chieftain Howard Stringer wants to ensure they keep improving. To that effect he's told News.com that the PlayStation Network will soon be expanded, after which Sony will finally begin distributing videos and other multimedia content straight to your PS3. Good news! Because if Microsoft can do it, you'd like to think Sony (who, you know...own both movie and music studios) can do it too. The article mentions a press conference Sony will be holding in two month's time, guess we'll find out more (or maybe even see it launched) then.

Sony Makes Blu-Ray-To-PSP Movie Transfer Official

The PSP's had a rough time living up to its promise as a top-shelf multimedia device. Short battery life hasn't helped, but perhaps most damning for the system has been - thanks to convoluted formatting processes and a useless proprietary disc format - its movie playback. It's a pain in the ass! Well no longer. Sony have made official at CES today something they've been planning for around a year now: the ability to buy a Blu-Ray movie, insert it in your PS3 and download it to your PSP. For keeps. Awesome news, and it's sure to increase interest in all parties involved, particularly Blu-Ray.

Would that be the wookie sans arsehole?
