A thread for PS3 owners Here

Hello Goaty ♥

Recommended Posts

Got a copy of Ridge 7 and a spare Sixaxis here, but my actual system won't arrive 'til Tuesday.

Not a huge fan of the feel of the pad so far, but hopefully that goes away when I get to actually use it in game. The triggers and the analogues feel very awkward in the hand next to the 360 pad though...

Lol, here I am.

The controller is old hat to be honest. It's clumsy compared to using the 360 pad (an all time classic IMO). This is based on Resistance, I'm sure it will be more usable with RR7 and other driving titles.

I'm had zero hardware issues. People on NTSC and NeoGAF complain that their pad unsynchs from time to time, not me.

I'm dissapointed you can't do anything with your PC. NO streaming, nothing. And, how can the PSP have RSS support and the PS3 not, madness.

The visuals are very sharp through HDMI. Gears looks better than Resistance though.

The NBA demo shows a really good example of how the PS3 copes with depth of field, this is something I have not seen on the 360, and is a very good effect.

More to follow, time for branflakes.

You can do things like specify bitrates and formats when ripping CD's. I like the fact it has a 60gb drive, I'll be installing linux this afternoon.

The photo thing that Edge talks about is quite cool, but you can't zoom right in on a pic using that method. I'm amazied they put a CF card slot in the front though, I thought that died years ago!

Resistance loads really quickly, as do all the demo's downloaded (which dl super quick btw).

I plugged in my USB receiver for my mouse and keyboard and it worked straight away (very handy for creating a network account).

Not managed to play online yet, only tried once, but it took ages so I left.

Reistance isn't as scary as Gears, it's got some grim cutscenes though, but hasn't made me jump yet (I'm about 4 hours in so far).

You know ...

i'm not sure we've had a bare bones thread where PS3 owners have given their review/opinion of the machine.

I'd like Stebbo in here for example please. ( assuming he's sourced some games for his PS3 )

and anyone else who's got one.

Thanks a lot!

Do you even have a PS3 yourself? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

Gears looks better than Resistance though.

Aww, I was really hoping teh Blu-Ray capacity was really going to make this game look amazing.

NOT POSSIBLE ON 360™

Depth of field? The original Splinter Cell did that, on the old Xbox. In 2003.

It is a nice effect though. At the time I was very impressed.

Can't be arsed to quote everyone, and answer loads of questions, so here it is in a few lines...

I've only got Resistance, but RR7 should be coming this week. It's good fun, but doesn't really push any boundaries, as I think I've said before, it's like Half Life 1.5, with a bit of Halo mixed in. It's pretty linear tbh, a standard alien invades earth FPS. The visuals go from being very nice (the larger outdoor arenas), to totally bland. I had a friend over last night and I resumed from the point I'm stuck on, which is loads of corridoors, crates, and boring wood textures, which was a shame, as there are some really nice bits.

As for me being a loner... Well, kinda yeah. My friends list is made up of people from the PS3 import thread over at NTSC. But there's always someone online. Considering there is only supposed to be 300,000 of these in the world, I think my list is quite healthy!

From the store, I have downloaded the Motorstorm, F1, NBA and soemthing shit I can't remember demo's.

I have changed my mind about Motorstorm, a few of us were playing last night and it's good fun. It's all started to click now. I even tried the motion sensor controls with suprising success, but it does make me want my Wii even more...

Am I glad I bought it? Yeah I am, I am enjoying resistance, messing about with linux, and I'm looking forward to my blu ray movies turning up this week.

Quite geeky I know, but I enjoy consoles develop. This is something that's quite new with firmware updates coming more and more often.

Oh, and the XMB features DO feel very unfinished. Considering they're gunning for Live, they've done a shit job so far. I don't see how they can recover either, MS stipulate the game MUST support things like cross game invites, be online in some way or another, etc etc. How Sony can match this when they haven't put something in place from the start, I don't know.

Has anyone else on here got one or not? Add me if so. (stebbo)

p.s. Linux took over 3 hours to install...
