Things you can't help but get elitist about

The PS2 Deus Ex port

Played it for the first time this afternoon, but only the Liberty Island section in the end.

FUCKING HELL.

Pure blasphemy.

It's just... rape. They raped the best game ever made. ARGH. Horrid. I'm still angry about it.

Eurgh. There's not even an on-screen keyboard for input. They CHANGED the map? They CHANGED the character models? They CHANGED some of the voice acting? Loading screens mid-level?

Buy a PC.

Devil May Cry 3

"It's just as good as Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox!" my friend cooed.

LOLWHATEVER.

Complete shit (in comparison), graphics-wise and control-wise.

What games/ports make you fucking furious, reader?

San Andreas on PC almost made me vomit. While the PS2 was clearly struggling to bring the huge world to life, it did it with so much character and colour that it's technical shortcomings were soon forgotten and you were 'actually there'. Feeling a little chill when the rain and thunderstorms started. Admiring the blood-red sunset over the smog-filled sky.

Then on the PC it looked like some fucking sterile CAD-CAM drawing with movement. Sure, the framerate was a bit better. Sure, the resolution was better. Sure, the textures were more crisp. But it lost its soul in the process, even playing it with a PS2 controller couldn't save it.

Because DMC3 is at least 10 times the game Ninja Gaiden thinks it is.

Oh god, what's with all this 'Ninja Gaiden is pretentious', 'Ninja Gaiden thinks it's hardcore' nonsense going around tonight? It's like all this pent up hate is being released just because the creator has 'busy hands'. :o

Again, interesting. More of a console gamer, eh?

I didn't like it at first either. Give it another go, I say.

More of a console gamer yes. The room where my PC in is cold. My front room is toasty. I do play games on PC though, Half Life 1 and 2, Doom 3 and Far Cry spring to mind. Vampire: The Masquerade as well.

I may give it another shot. At least it now runs smoothly on my system. I remember my mate bought it when it first came out and it ran like a dog on his PC.

It's not being elitist in the strictest sense, but it makes me bristle when I hear people saying that Mario Sunshine is crap (it's not, it's just not as revolutionary as Mario64) and then they compare it unfavourably to the likes of Jak or Ratchet.

A poor Mario is better than the best example of pretty much any other platformer. And Sunshine isn't even a poor Mario.

IMO, obviously.

I was hating Itagaki before hating Itagaki was cool.

And Rare.

And Dead Rising, though that's still not cool. Give it eighteen months.

In a similar vein, it annoys the crap about me when people slag off Halo 2, then praise stuff like Project: Snowblind and the like. Halo 2 may not have been as good as Halo:CE, but it still pisses on just about every other FPS out there at the moment.

Not sure if I agree with this. I wasn't too fond of Jak, but I really like Ratchet & Clank. The characters, the gameworld, the gameplay ... I had so much fun with it after thinking I'd never enjoy a 3D platformer ever again. While you won't hear me say that Mario Sunshine is crap (I thought it was very good, I liked it a lot), I might just be pushed far enough to say that Ratchet & Clank was indeed a better, more refreshing and fun game.

This isn't elitist, it's just true.

I've started to hate when people critisise FFTA, because although there are probably lots of better SRPG's, being handheld and allowing you to save anywhere makes it the perfect mix of hardcore RPG and accessability.

Guitar Hero for me. The gimmicky self-indulgent bit of game that it is. Sure it's fun. Yes it's enjoyable. But somewhere between this and Frequency, Harmonix have missed out on My Perfect Game. It's no longer about the zone and being part of the music. It's now about showing off, being a flashy bastard and predetermined paths.

The worst thing is Guitar Hero's sales more or less put my hopes of a true Frequency sequel to death. I like GH but I'll never love it.

I played and finished Deus Ex on the PS2. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rez on the PS2... It just seems wrong somehow. Same with Crazty Taxi and any of the other Dc -> PS2 ports. Just, wrong.

I've never played Deus Ex but am considering playing it at some point. If I do it'll be on PS2. And I only played Rez on PS2, and it's glorious.

I just don't think it matters that much if you aren't looking for differences/faults.

People that bought OutRun Coast to Coast on PSP instead of Xbox want shooting though, obviously. :o

The most fun I had with the game was when I sold it and bought a sixpack of beers instead.

I mean, it already went completely wrong in the introduction:

Man, I love strategy games. They're my bread and butter - the foundation that I base my gaming life on.

But Jesus Christ, FFTA sure is one tedious chore of a game.

When the Playstation is referred to generically as the PSone - it drives me fucking nuts. For reasons that must mean I'm elitist. Possibly.

It really gets my back up when game consoles in general are refered to as 'playstation'. It tends to happen in a lot of news articles and sometimes in soaps.
