If you added up all the cash you spent on gaming

2 cnsoles per generation : £300

roughly 50 games per gen: £2000

X 6 gens (including handhelds) = (300 + 2000) X 6 = roughly £13K

plus also retro collections £1K

Arcade going £500 easily (small amounts over the years)

Roughly under £15K

Now calculate how much you would have spent over your gaming lifetime if you smoked instead - 20 a day.

me = 12years proper (without parents funding games)

12 X ( 52 X(7X£5)) = pack a day for 12 years

= £21,840

Total answer = gaming has saved me nearly £7K and has been good for my health. :(:(:(

This includes arcades, consoles, games and accessories - i know its pretty hard to work out especially as it goes back many years but could be quite interesting!

I reckon about 10 grand for me

A quick estimate puts my figure at around £40,000.

Although that only includes things I actually own at the moment - not stuff I used to have and have now sold.

You've got that from either 1up or IGN or something similar? Then yes, I'm sure.

Note that it's an "estimated value" based on one person's (possibly incorrect) say-so.

On consoles probably about £5000 quid since the DC ( :( that's over the DC, PS2, X-box, Cube, GBA and DS... EDIT: and 360 + NGPC, does that make it better or worse...?). Coupled with BBC Micro games when I was a kid and then Amiga/PC stuff and all those 50p's shovelled into arcade machines I reckon it's somewhere around £8000.

Do I count paying 3 quid each for burnt PS1 games from some dodgy lad at uni? :( .

I've only ever traded in one game and I've got every console that did well over here. The machines themselves were generally christmas presents and I tend to buy things cheap...but I bet it's five grand at least.

None of these amounts look that bad really do they? I've spent £2,500 on a porch just this week and I'm not going to get the same enjoyment out of that I'm sure.

A pretty cheap hobby all said.

You missed my post then?

I'd like to try, more than 10K for sure. I've been gaming for 17 years.

Master System - £70

Megadrive - £189

Mega CD - £220

32X - £150

snes - £150

Lynx - £60

Game gear - £100

Gameboy - £70

Saturn - £150

Dreamcast - £500

Neo Geo - £150

Gamecube - £130

360 - £230

GBA - £100

GBA SP - £70

GBA SP (with brighter screen) - £50

NGPC Color - £60

Jamma Cabinet - £150

Now I currently own over 1000 games. but some have been traded over time

but really low average buying price would be £5.

Theres load of other costs like magazines, arcade credits and promo items.
