Of course i have. Otherwise i'd probably not have posted my post (and yes i did shoot the guys in the bollocks.) my only real criticisms of the demo were the following

So no, you haven't played it, have you?

That's just embarassing.

Kindly leave the stage.

For the record, I had a blast with the demo. It was only when I played the finished game's awful short-as-hell levels with the same tired mechanics and piss-poor AI over and over again that I clocked just how shit it was. And by 'shit', I mean 'total fucking shit'.

I think it speaks volumes that everyone on here who has ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME is slamming it, even those who praised the demo.

Oooh i'm all confused now.

Is Meh usually accurate with his synopsisies?

Meh has unfortunately weakened his own case by coming down unjustifiably hard on games that really aren't that bad many times in the past. Much like the boy who cried wolf, except Meh is the man who cried 'shit'.

In this instance, he's 100% correct.

My name is Stroker Ace, and I endorse Meh's posts. Except for the ones where he goes mental and starts cussing people out.

I'm never going to play this game and I think disliking a game is fine. But attacking some one who worked on it with such condescension is not on. No ones wants to spend years on something that fails, and no one wants to make crap. Just a modicum of politeness and empathy is not a big ask.

He works for midway but had nothing to do with the game, going by this thread.

Right, I've now played the demo on both the 360 and PS3.

My conclusion after playing the 360 demo was that it's utter pish. After playing the PS3 demo, I think it's less pish but I'm not sure why.

I'm playing both PS3 and 360 on the same TV, PS3 via HDMI and 360 via component. In my opinion, the game looks quite a bit better on PS3. I think the textures and lighting are better, and that the environments appear to be lit more effectively. This could be a symptom of the HDMI input, but both the panning city shots and the closeup face shots looked nicer to me.

Aside from that, the game just seemed a bit more fluid on PS3. The action seemed to flow better than on the 360 demo, and by this I mean the occasional pause on 360, the occasional stutter etc. Controlling my character just felt slightly more fluid.

But hey, these are quite minor things, and don't change the actual game or its mechanics. The fact is that if you like Hong Kong cinema, and want to play something which is just a bit of a laugh, then you may well like Stranglehold. From the demo, the game doesn't appear to be totally flat, I mean, there is quite a bit of skill involved in quickly and accurately aiming, in identifying the scenery which can help take out the opponents etc. It's not like there's nothing to it.

So despite this getting a bad writeup so far, it's not _that_ bad. Personally I wouldn't pay full price for it, and would pick it up as a rental, or as a budget title. Let's face it, if you keep your eye on Ebay, you'll see it pretty cheap a couple of weeks after release.

Eurogamer have just given this a thoroughly respectable 8, which going from my experience of the demo (PS3) does seem rather generous.

I'm all up for a game that comes straight at you, but I have to admit I didn't find anything in the demo which suggested the gameplay became anything less vacuous later on. It all looks suitably stylish, but I felt disconnected from it all.

Probably give it a punt on import though, as even if the game turns out to be bobbins, at least I'll have Hard Boiled in HD to keep me company <_<
