halo on lengendary

Hi,

Right got a bit of free time right now so I thought I d go back to halo and give it a go on lengendary since a lot of folks on here reckon its much better on that difficulty.

I have to say its a completely different game altogether, its amazing, Im converted now, I thought halo was completely over rated before (its still no goldeneye, mind! but thats ok its just different). Its all about fire fights and stratedgy rather than just charging through. I know the AI stays the same no matter what the difficulty but now it has a chance to shine.

However its also completely impossible, I started on lengendary on the first halo planet level and i ve managed to get past one check point after an hour, now im completely stuck now after two hours.

How on earth did anyone on here complete this on lengendary?

On solo, I only managed to get as far as the Halo level. I got to a checkpoint where I was surrounded by about four Elites and had one plasma grenade and half a needler clip. I tried everything from long range attacks where they could barely see me to close up hiding and peeking out for pot-shots, but I just could not get rid of them. I would have had to restart the level to avoid cornering myself like that, and I didn't want to, so I never went back to it.

Co-op is a different story, however.

Can't remember. Either empty, or swapped for something else.

It's been a while, but don't you lose your pistol if you die and revert to the plasma pistol instead? EDIT: No, that's just on co-op, isn't it?

Damn, you edited as I was quoting!

Yeah, in single player it goes back to your checkpoint

Swapped the Pistol... this country.

Nah, it's not. One of my proudest gaming achievements is finishing both Haloes on Legendary. I don't actually think I've done that with any other game... It is hard, but patience is the key, and never underestimate a plasma pistol/human pistol combo.

think I might give it a go on heroic instead, this is completely impossible!

I found Heroic way more enjoyable than Legendry. It was the perfect mix of blasting and strategy, really nicely balanced. Legendary was chore. I didn’t play the spaceship mission, I started down on the planet and it took me hours just to get across the bridge. T’was no fun at all.

You can just cross the bridge

Yeah - just leg it.

I think i'm one of the stupid people who didn't learn about the combo until halo 2 - the needler really came into it's own when dealing with elites for me, that and stickies.

It is hard at certain bits, you've really got to go guerilla on them and deal with them in small groups or singularly - and know which rock you're going to hide behind!

I've been playing Halo 2 (mulitplayer, admittedly) pretty solidly for the last two years, but I never really played Halo. Would it feel weird going to that and trying to play it through? How long would it take to complete on, say, normal?

Yeah - once you've developed a method for each type of encounter it's ok. I didn't think i'd feel that way when i first started it, but it gets easier the more you play - apart from the hanger bay on one level and 1 bit of the library that i was stuck on for a while.

You just need some cover when facing elites really - it's very frustrating when you've been plugging away at them for ages and they're nearly dead - but you have to take cover and get your shield back.

I thought this thread was going to be master chief talking about Legendary's posts.

Disappointed.

EDIT: corrected after I bizarrely made the same spelling mistake davros mentions below, crazy subconcious shennanigans!

You really need to understand the weaponry on Legendary.

For starters, the trusty Assault Rifle becomes useless for anything apart from Grunts and those little Flood Spores. The Plasma Pistol, which I thought was pants on my first playthrough on Heroic, becomes essential. Here's why:

To take out an Elite you fire one charged up plasma pistol shot at him. This disables his shield. Switch to the pistol and shoot him once in the head. Dead.

Halo on Legendary is ace. Dunno about "Lengendary" though. :D

Halo1 on Legendary isn't that hard after a bit of practice.

Halo2 is a bastard though

Halo 2 on Legendary isn't hard you muppet, well, apart from the snipers - and even they're more annoying than hard.

I've never completed Halo 1 on Legendary but 2 didn't take me that long...

I've even abandoned it on co-op with a mate who's about the same level as me. I can't get past the first pelican bay. Just not enough ammo. or patience. I hate H2 for making me play it on heroic which is just too easy. Halo''s Legendary is just perfectly balanced.

As much as I love Halo I can't help but think of that as a myth that everyone's kidding themselves over. It's probably just me though, obviously I see the balance in Halo, - it was perfect - I just don't see what's different/broken in Halo 2*.

I'd put it down to people not liking the game as much so they don't put as much determination into completing it as they did with the original. I love both and found the second quite a bit easier.

*EDIT: Apart from the Jackal snipers, obv.

It's not a myth. When I bought Halo I didn't sit stuck on exactly the same bit for nearly six hours before giving up. Was only a month ago my mate and I sat down to give it one more go on co op and after an hour just said 'this simply is not fun'.

On Halo 2 legendary I got to that bit where you're beamed (?) aboard the er...High Charity thing, and you're in that room that's like a little stadium. Brutes and grunts just pour out of the many doors at the sides, like tunnels onto a footy pitch. On legendary the weapons seems sparse and there just doesn't seem to be enough ammo for anything you do find, and thus, after hours of frustration trying to fluke my way out, I gave up. It's like that level in Halo where you're beamed aboard the Truth and Reconcilation, but shit.

I got as far as 'Sacred Icon' on Halo 2 Legendary. Assuming that's the first level where the Arbiter enters the Sentinel Wall- speaks volumes for the quality of Halo 2 that I can't remember what the levels are called.

The snipers themselves aren't what stopped me (although God knows they're a fucking ball-ache, completely removing Halo's key element which was the fact that when you got fucked it was always your fault), it was the Flood. I'm not sure what Bungie did to the AI of the Flood between the two games, but it was something bad; I loved fighting those green bags of feculence in the first game, but found them amazingly hard and annoying to fight in the second.

I think it's that they move around too much. They spring around like gazelles, as opposed to the shambling sprint they had before- you can only really fight them with thr sword, which gets a bit dull.

I've been trying to get on with Halo 2 on Legendary on and off since it was first released. If you look in the original thread you'll see about two week's worth of frustrated posts from me as I tried to clear the 2nd Hangar Bay. By the time I managed it (by a fluke I might add), I just couldn't stand to play it anymore.

Then later I picked it up again and played to where the snipers appear in New Mombassa. You can guess what I thought of those. Then recently I played up to when you first meet the Flood as the Arbiter, and again turned it off in frustration.

I was one of the people bigging up Halo 2 when it was released, but I'm not too proud to admit I was wrong.

It's simply not as good as the first one.
