Quite enjoyed it.

I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with him no longer using Harry's code. It wasn't nearly as good an operner as season 2's was though. I couldn't really care less about Rita's pregnancy.

might be where they were going with Cody. It'll take ages before Dexter's kid gets old enough to train. I really hope they're doing something interesting with it and it doesn't end up being a predictibile way of Dexter realising the value of human life or something.

Has anyone here read the third book and watched this first episode of season 3? So far is it following the book or is it going off course which I hope is the case as the third one is supposed to be terrible. I heard it even had aliens in it??

I hope it does follow the book, if that's the case. Recently finished season 1 and... err... it's all a bit predictable and dull, really.

Dexter's constant "I'M NOT NORMAL, ME" mutterings get annoying, and the sister reminding him constantly that HE'S HER BROTHER got on my tits.

Yes & yes. The TV show is totally different from the books from the conclusion of series/book 1.

There is someone who is still alive in the TV series who is killed by Dexter at the end of the first book.

(a bit cryptic but thought I would spoiler tag it just in case). The producers of the TV series have said they are not using the books but going in their own direction. Just using the characters as a launching point.

There's no aliens in the book, but it does have a slight supernatural spin on things. It's not as good as the previous, but still enjoyable enough.

They stopped following the books last season, they only borrowed a few basic plot points from the second book then went with a completely different stroyline.
