Well I'm looking to import a US machine.. I've just mailed VG+ to find out when they will be doing preorders.

I was going to wait for PAL, but now I've decided I'm quite willing to satisfy the Nintendo whore that has been dormant in me for a while to spend silly money on Fedex delivery and import tax.

Anyone recommend good places to import US consoles from?

If anyone wants to risk the lottery, Play now have their pre-orders up for £179.99.

I'm gonna get one from ASDA, methinks. My sister works there and gets 10% off so she can put one away for me when they come into stock and I'll get it for just over £160.

seriously fuck play. they are good for cd/dvd's but fucking useless at hardware preorders. they don't actually have an order waiting list. your place is based on who works there and its highest spending customers.

Well that doesn't sound too promising.

I imported my DS from Japan but I think I'll go PAL with the Wii. Man, pre-ordering used to be easy! Gameplay have never let me down before so I might give them a whirl if they can show me where I am in the queue.

I wouldn't touch Play as has been noted. I got my 360 from Gamestation but that was touch and go despite putting down my pre-order in June. I was 6th on the list and I think my local store got 8 for launch :(

This time I've already "registered my interest" with Game. I think they were the most reliable of the pre-orders last xmas and I'm hoping they can be trusted this time.

I refuse to preorder with either Game or Gamestation. After the forced bundes they had last christmas with the 360 and DS, I wouldn't waste my time.

I can see it now:

"Wii Console + Cars: The Game + Spongebob : The Game + Classic Controller + GAME Branded Wii Stand all for £299.99!!!!"

Ah, hadn't thought of that. I thought they couldn't force you to buy the bundle if you had ordered just the unit though. I'm sure if you kicked up enough fuss they would have to give in. Actually re-reading your post GS didn't force a bundle on me anyway.

When I preordered my (original) DS from GAME, they told me you had to get Mario 64 DS with the console. I wasn't particularly bothered because I wanted it, but you weren't given a choice.

Thinking back, Gamestation only started the forced 360 bundles a few weeks after launch, because the consoles were so scarce and they had nicked the idea from GAME, I guess.

They can't force the bundles if you pre-order the console.

I dont really know how anyone would actually know but... How many units are being shipped and how many are expected to sell? Are we expecting shortages of a 360 ilk? or do you think I'l be able to stroll into a branch of game or similar and buy one on launch, or near launch. (I wont be back from uni untill the 15th)

Call me a mentalist, but I might well use DVD Box Office for my pre-order. That's www.dvdboxoffice.com for anyone who's not used them before.

Alternatively, some of the asian sites may get US versions in stock at the same time as the US ones. PlayAsia and YesAsia immediately spring to mind.
