Iron Banner's back next week. With a difference.

It's not control this time. It's clash. Eeh.

Also:

• Iron Banner reputation from winning matches increased by 20%
Activity completion rewards increased at all ranks, with even more significant increases at Rank 2 and above
Packages from Lord Saladin upon reaching Rank 3 and Rank 5
Iron Banner Artifacts can be obtained from the Rank 3 package
Iron Banner Ghost Shells can be obtained from the Rank 5 package or activity completion rewards

Black Spindle fail!

Oh well better luck next time.

I just watched The Legend Himself do it solo on YouTube!!!

He used:

Raid hand cannon (Extra damage to Taken)

Invective

Solar sword.

Sunsinger with revive.

He takes out the blights with Invective then nails the boss with the sword (Legendary I think)

Then cleans up the adds with hand cannon and sword.

Fuck it I'll just add video here.

Xur has Crest Of Alpha Lupi (Titan), Young Ahamkara's Spine, Obsidian Mind, Gauntlet Engram and Legacy Chest. He's in the Tower Hangar surrounded by what I can only assume is basically no-one at all.

Nice of him to sell Crest Of Alpha Lupi, I know people have been really struggling to get that what with it being the only fucking titan chestpiece in the three of coins loot table for fuck's sake.

It's got extra ammo for pulse rifles and shotguns, and it's an all intellect roll too. Iron Banner next week. It's a bargain ;)

And you'll be able to get it up to 310 by infusing your spare Crest of Alpha Lupi's into it. Everyone's a winner!

I've been thinking how they could fix the current mass exodus. The main complaint seems to be a lack of drops and/or a feeling that people will achieve very little of value in their given playtime.

I don't think the current infusion system really works. They haven't combated the issue from year one where 90% of players are running around in identical armour sets, because if you get a piece of raid armour, you're unlikely to infuse it and wear something else, as you'll be actively losing light. Likewise most players will use a handful of the same weapons as levelling them is such a chore.

Bungie deliberately looked at popular iOS/Android games when designing Destiny. I'm going to use Puzzle & Dragons as an example as it's hugely successful and actually has a lot of the same mechanics as Destiny. In P&D when you run levels you get the equivalent of green/blue/purple engrams, you then either keep them, or if they're junk feed them to your other monsters to level them up. Point being that you never feel that whatever you've won is useless, as opposed to 99% of engrams in this which will be lower level than what you have, oh wait, you get armour/weapon parts, whoopdee-doo, a 270 item with all its perks is still pretty useless. The only reason weapon parts are even a deal now is because Bungie suddenly imposed artificial scarcity on them without warning.

I think a system similar to P&D's could work. Give items their own Light XP bar, that you can fill up by feeding it other items, wiser heads on me would decide on the correct ratio of items to a light level. That way time in the game will start to feel meaningful again, run a Court of Oryx or a Strike and have a load of blue junk engrams, feed them to your new Black Spindle, or whatever. Instead of the current system of players huddled around the Cryptarch dismantling trash.

They've got the balance all wrong, in that it doesn't benefit the casual players at all, instead weighing the whole thing in favour of those who play for multiple hours a day, every day. I blame the quest element: they're a psychological barrier, with a seemingly never-ending path towards completion. So you go to the tower, do a mission, return to the tower for the next bit, and you've already asked for at least an hour of the player's time, at best. Never mind collecting 50 fucking hadium flakes or having to search the internet to find 45 calcified fragments (never mind the ones you've already stumbled upon at random).

Then you've got different factions around the tower asking for endless amounts of rep or whatever to activate their questline, spuriously locked behind several invisible barriers that again need wild internet searches to find out whatever the hell you're supposed to be doing. And on top of all of that, you're asked to effectively repeat quest steps that in many instances depend on the chance co-operation of others to complete, like doing the outlandish time sink that is the Oryx Raid for the umpteenth time.

But hell, if everyone plays for four hours a day for 7 days next week, then they have an absurdly slim chance of being randomly gifted something good, except there's no way to tell if Bungie are bullshitting again about drops being better. And all signs are pointing to the highly likely chance that no, they haven't sorted anything out, again. Except if they have, but there's no way of being able to account for it in advance.

I think they really need to do something with iron banner, there is no real attraction going for 280 weapons and armour (well, 290 probably now with the plus 10 on everything).

I only did it to get the dug coat, then thought fuck it, might as well get that pulse as well.

They wont. Because its all about the grind. Grind means game time so more players online.

Thats how this whole game is setup.

Nirwen's dropped at 280 and it's the best legendary pulse rifle in the game, pretty much. The one good thing about being above 310 light is that anything 310 or lower is automatic infusion fodder so getting a great 280, or 290, up to snuff isn't actually all that hard. I got Nirwen's up to 310 with some spare raid weapons and a spare last word. Had them all lying around so it wasn't a grind at all, really.

The pursuit of 320 is the grind. The drop value of iron banner and vanguard stuff isn't, because if you're hunting for 320 you're going to be swimming in infusion mats for whatever you might want to level. Unless it's heavy weapons. I have no heavy weapons.
