Destiny: FIN

Apologies that it was at the Totems and not the War Priest. Hopefully you had a good run and nailed them quickly.

The drops are starting to get really bad for me. In 3 weeks of hard runs up to the sisters/oryx I've now gone with nothing dropping except for a couple of ghosts...only one of which was higher (by 1 point) than my existing one. I've been 305/6 for an eternity now.

Yeah, gave me a chance to get nothing from the totems for a change. Ran through to Oryx and managed to get shafted with some 300 and 310 boots from Gogoballs and another fusion at 306 from the daughters. Really passed caring now as I'm only playing it to do HM at least one time. Once that's done I'm finished with it till Destiny 2 unless they release some DLC (with a new raid) next year which at the moment I'm really doubting they will. I'll skip another PoE type DLC I think.

I've been thinking how they could fix the current mass exodus. The main complaint seems to be a lack of drops and/or a feeling that people will achieve very little of value in their given playtime.

I don't think the current infusion system really works. They haven't combated the issue from year one where 90% of players are running around in identical armour sets, because if you get a piece of raid armour, you're unlikely to infuse it and wear something else, as you'll be actively losing light. Likewise most players will use a handful of the same weapons as levelling them is such a chore.

Bungie deliberately looked at popular iOS/Android games when designing Destiny. I'm going to use Puzzle & Dragons as an example as it's hugely successful and actually has a lot of the same mechanics as Destiny. In P&D when you run levels you get the equivalent of green/blue/purple engrams, you then either keep them, or if they're junk feed them to your other monsters to level them up. Point being that you never feel that whatever you've won is useless, as opposed to 99% of engrams in this which will be lower level than what you have, oh wait, you get armour/weapon parts, whoopdee-doo, a 270 item with all its perks is still pretty useless. The only reason weapon parts are even a deal now is because Bungie suddenly imposed artificial scarcity on them without warning.

I think a system similar to P&D's could work. Give items their own Light XP bar, that you can fill up by feeding it other items, wiser heads on me would decide on the correct ratio of items to a light level. That way time in the game will start to feel meaningful again, run a Court of Oryx or a Strike and have a load of blue junk engrams, feed them to your new Black Spindle, or whatever. Instead of the current system of players huddled around the Cryptarch dismantling trash.

I like what they have done with the special weapon quests (Black Spindle, Sleeper Simulant etc) but there just aren't enough of them. I played for a couple of hours last night and just ended up with a load of 260 - 290 junk. I have been on 298 forever and the only clear chance I have to level up is the Nightfall which is one item per week. They really need to do something with Prison of Elders and the old Raids to make them worth playing again. I've found myself playing Crucible more and more which I am enjoying but probably says a lot about the state of PvE at the moment.

It's not the lack of drops, its the lack of meaningful drops that the problem. Having a double RNG system for the raid is terrible and has completely taken all the fun out of running it for me now as I get really salty when my 'prize' turns out to be worthless.

IMO:

They need to get rid of the 80% infuse penalty.

They should add a 1-2 light level rise if you infuse something with the same (or -1) light level.

They need a proper smart loot system to stop fucking you over with 300/310 light level gear when you are wearing higher in the raid.

They need to just get rid of weapon parts, what positive purpose do they serve?

Technically, at 298, the very clear & obvious chance you have to level up is the Raid, which is guaranteed to be a minimum of 300 so will level you up no matter what.*

*Assuming its not all mouldy old shards. :(

I did mean to say that I find it hard to find time to do the Raid. I am sure I'd be enjoying it more at the moment if I was regularly playing Kings Fall.

Thing is, once you get proficient at it, then the two hours you spent the last night, could have been spent running, and completing the Raid. It takes some training and getting used to the mechanics, but once you have it down you can get through it quick. I certainly think its an easier raid than VoG.

You say mass exodus, but a lot of people leaving have sunk in considerable playtime. Cannot exactly say the game has failed, TTK has been a very successful update.

Sure, sounds like people may be getting fed up with not getting the loot they want from the raid. This is same as it ever was. Plus at least there is chance Osris drops some higher light level stuff.

Bigger problem is you only increase the light level. There are no fancier rewards from hard mode Oryx, just higher numbers. There is nothing to do with those higher numbers apart from do raid again for a chance at...slightly higher numbers.

Doesn't help that a lot of LFG and I have even seen it on here want a good go at Oryx on HM - which means light level 310+. Only realistic way to do that is get on HM raid. There are not enough people spare on here who can realistically band together to attempt HM. The people who are in groups only pop on to do the raid most of the time. It is same situation Destiny has always had. Only at least you had chance of new, different stuff in older raids. Here you get a different colour.

I second the call for old raids to be beefed up, no reason not to. They need new content if they aren't doing expansion packs. This time last year we had a month or so before Dark Below dropped. We knee it was coming, we could get excited. We have no word on anything to get hyped about right now. Apparently a few updates coming but I don't remember reading about any actual new content.

The big games dropping doesn't help, but why do I want the bigger numbers? Is a new raid coming? Do I need to get stuff together for higher levels and new stages? Well we haven't heard anything, might as well play something else.

Plus if they ever do another expansion or similar, I can only predict they will do what happened in all the previous expansions and release higher level/light gear, rendering the current treadmill pointless.

And I say all this despite having spent enough time on the game to have burnt in the super bar on my TV. TTK is fantastic, but I feel TTK is also very much done.

A post about Destiny and Puzzle & Dragons is like a Venn Diagram of my very soul.

The reason that wouldn't work is that P&D is endless, and Destiny absolutely isn't. You'd have people farming Court Of Oryx for three weeks and then complaining they'd hit the level cap.

I do think there's a lot Destiny could take from PAD, though it's more structural than mechanical - daily and weekend dungeons with defined, desirable rewards, time-limited double drop rates, stuff like that. I do wonder sometimes whether Destiny could borrow the skillup system, where feeding a weapon its own dupes has a dice-roll chance of improving its clip size, or reducing reload or something, but it would break PVP a bit. GungHo have the luxury of making a purely PVE game, so they can basically power-creep the fuck out of the thing to keep the whales on the hook without worrying about upsetting anyone too much.

Man I love Puzzle & Dragons.

I expect Bungie will be sitting back a bit for a week or two to let people play other games - if you look at the flow of content drops and secrets since launch it's been pretty much clearly designed to last into early November when they know people will drift away to the big new releases. There'll be something around Thanksgiving I reckon.

What's the best way to get exotic shards?

You can get them from Xur, or dismantle exotics; I guess the best option is whatever you have most spare of; exotics or Strange coins. I dismantled a load of my year 1 exotics to get a load of shards once I had manage to ditch some emotional attachment (not you Ice breaker. Love you xx)

Spent an hour on Mars going to public events waiting for a Warsat and it turned up eventually. Lots of kindred spirits clearly on the same mission, sitting on rocks to wait, and one nutter proudly sporting a Sleeper Simulant already, helping his fireteam no doubt.

Is it just server maintenance or is it prep for the update?

Anyone Black Spindle getting tonight?

Yes!

Anyine get the armsday sniper yesterday? Same impact and better something than the 1000 Yard Stare. Looking forward to infusing that badboy.
